    摘要: For severing long workpieces, in particular pipes of metal material, especially at high temperatures, in a normal plane relative to the axis at an arbitrary site with the aid of a metal-cutting tool, a workpiece is firmly clamped and at a standstill, while the tool is guided in an interrupted cut around the workpiece with continuous radial advancement. The tool remains in engagement with the workpiece over only a portion of its path, which is effected by way of example in that the central circling of the cutting movement has superimposed upon it an eccentric planetary movement, so that the line of cutting is not a continuous circular line. In an apparatus for performing this method, a knife head (3) equipped with cutting knives (5) is seated on the end toward the cut of a hollow working shaft (2) rotating in a housing (1). A hollow control shaft (7) is preferably supported centrally in the hollow working hsaft (2) carrying the knife head (3). During idling, the hollow control shaft (7) rotates in synchronism with the hollow working shaft (2) via a planetary gear (9, 10); during cutting, however, the hollow control shaft (7) executes a relative movement with respect to the hollow working shaft (2).

    摘要: In a turret indexing device, a coupling containing three gear members is employed in a turret indexing device to cooperate with an indexing disc mounted on an output shaft which is adapted to hold an indexing head. The coupling is operated by a first cam fixedly mounted on an input shaft through a lever mechanism, and the indexing disc is driven by a second cam fixedly mounted on the same input shaft. The three gear members include a first gear member fixedly mounted on a collar slidably mounted on the output shaft, a second gear member which is fixedly mounted on a stationary housing, and third gear member fixedly mounted on a head end of the output shaft. The collar with the first gear member is operated by the lever mechanism to cause the first gear to engage with and disengage from the second gear member and the third gear member while the first cam rotates, in a present timing sequence, and the indexing disc is caused to rotate only when the first gear member is disengaged from the second gear member and the third gear member.

    摘要: A trimmer for making a circumferential cut through a hollow cylindrical object. The trimmer has a rotatably cup which holds a blade support assembly which rotates with the rotatable cup. A cam member is supported by the rotatable cup and rotates in the same direction as a rotatable cup but at a slightly different speed. In one cutting cycle, the cam member rotates one revolution different from the rotatable cup. This causes the blade to move in and out of contact with the object to be cut while the blade is rotating about the periphery of the object.

    摘要: A mandrel positioned can body is retained stationary with a wall to be trimmed projecting axially through an outer stationary cutter ring while an internal, circular trimmer knife is moved outwardly to penetrate the can wll acting against the cutter ring and the knife axis is then moved in a circular path around the can wall and cutter ring to trim the can wall followed by trimmer knife inward retraction. The trimmer knife is also preferably rotatable about its own axis and interfaces during the trimming operation against the cutter ring by axial abutting respective radial surfaces. The trimmer knife inward and outward movement relative to the cutter ring is controlled by a cam ring having an inwardly facing cam surface and adjustment means is preferably associated with the cam ring for radial trimmer knife movement control and can wall penetration. The cutter ring and trimmer knife are each mounted so that they may be disassembled, surface ground for sharpening and reassembled with the reassembly assuring exact cutting surface relaignment automatically.
