Abstract: Dry compositions for conditioning soil are provided that enhance plant growth by creating beneficial soil environments. The dry compositions include a superabsorbent polymer and a cellulosic fiber that includes at least one of hydroxyethylcellulose and methyl cellulose. In addition, methods are provided for improving soil condition by applying the compositions to soil. The compositions have improved handling properties, including flowability in commercial applications, relative to superabsorbent polymers alone. Surprisingly, the compositions can improve soil moisture retention, increase the uptake of nutrients by plants, reduce leaching of nutrients, pesticides, and microbes, and improve seedling ability to break through soil crusts as well or better than superabsorbent polymers alone.

Abstract: A synthetic soil substrate system has a plurality of synthetic soil substrate layers that are individually designed to promote plant growth as the roots grow into the layer and as a function of the growth stage. The synthetic soil substrate layers may be planar or may be concentrically arranged with a first synthetic soil substrate ring layer being configured inside of a second synthetic soil substrate ring layer. A synthetic soil substrate has pores that are configured for plant growth and retention and/or deliver of water and growth additives. The average pore size of a first synthetic soil substrate layer may be substantially different from the average pore size of an adjacent synthetic soil substrate layer. Also, the pore structure or shape of the pores may be different between synthetic soil substrate layers, The synthetic soil substrate may have an integral growth additive retained in the pores.

Abstract: A composition for forming a biodegradable horticultural growing foam includes a vegetable oil-based polyol, an aliphatic isocyanate, an alkyl polyglucoside, a foaming agent including an aqueous metal carbonate solution, and a biomass. Based on 100 parts by weight of the vegetable oil-based polyol, the aliphatic isocyanate, alkyl polyglucoside, aqueous metal carbonate solution, and biomass are respectively present in amounts ranging from 20 to 75 parts by weight, ranging from 2 to 27 parts by weight, ranging from 1 to 6 parts by weight, and of at least 20 parts by weight. A biodegradable horticultural growing foam prepared by the composition is also disclosed.

Abstract: A living wall system or method involving a plurality of living wall modules. Each living wall module has a module body enclosing a module plenum, the module body having a growth media port and at least one duct port in fluid communication with the growth media port via the module plenum. The plurality of module plenums are interconnected through the plurality of duct ports to form a recirculation plenum. At least one directional blower is received within the recirculation plenum, the at least one directional blower between at least one upstream living wall module and at least one downstream living wall module to direct fluid flow from the at least one upstream living wall module to the at least one downstream living wall module.

Abstract: A seed and/or plant system contains a strand-shaped seed and/or plant carrier suspended on a mounting. The seed and/or plant carrier contains several seed and/or plant locations with seeds and/or plants arranged spaced apart from each other in its longitudinal extension. The seeds and/or the plants are supplied with a liquid via a supply tube. In order for the seed and/or plant locations in the seed and/or plant system to be provided at a distance from one another definable by the manufacturer of the seed and/or plant system in a simple manner, a sleeve is provided on each of the seed and/or plant locations, from which a substrate with the seed and/or the plant is received or receivable and/or which at least partially forms a substrate for the seed and/or the plant, wherein the sleeve is formed from the or around the seed and/or plant carrier.
