摘要: One variation of a method for interpreting pressures in plants includes: accessing a first image of a first set of sentinel plants in a field; accessing a second image of a second set of sentinel plants in the field, recorded during a first period; interpreting a first pressure of a stressor in the first set based on features extracted from the first image, captured during the first period; interpreting a second pressure in the second set based on features extracted from the second image; deriving a model associating pressure at the first set and pressure at the second set based on the first pressure and the second pressure; interpreting a third pressure in the first set based on features extracted from a third image captured during a second period; and predicting a fourth pressure in the second set during the second period based on the third pressure and the model.

摘要: A method for encouraging budding from a growing point of a plant, for inhibiting apical bud growth, and for increasing the number of lateral shoots is disclosed along with the substances made by and used in the method. The excrement produced by the larvae of rhinoceros beetles during growth is used to cause physiological phenomena of plants, such as encouraging a plant to bud (including laterally) or sucker, or inhibiting the growth of the apical bud of a woody plant. These special effects include those achievable by certain plant hormones.

摘要: The present invention relates to an ovitrap (10) and novel method of controlling mosquito populations comprising the use of light (20) to create a photo stimulus, causing mosquito larvae (102) to move from a location (Va), where gravid mosquitoes have deposited their eggs, in a direction away from the light, to a location (Vb). where they are trapped and killed. The ovitrap utilises this behaviour to more effectively capture and kill larvae. The ovitrap comprises a container (12), a cover (14), and a means (16) for dividing the container (12) into two regions (101; 102), which in use are filled with water, and which communicate via an opening (26) such that a volume (Vb) below the means (16) defines a larvae (102) trapping region, and a volume (Va) above the means (16) defines an egg (101) receiving region. A light source (20) is mounted above the container (12) and is positioned to direct light downwards at a water surface (92), such that when the light is turned on, it creates a photo stimulus, and the larvae (102) respond by moving in a direction away from the light, from the volume above (Va) into the volume below (Vb) via opening (26). A gating mechanism (18) opens and closes the opening (26) when the light is respectively turned on and off, such that the larvae are trapped in the volume below

摘要: A Biological Control Agent (BCA) system comprising processed parasitized mealybug mummies is disclosed. The processed and modified parasitized mealybug mummies are essentially devoid of their limbs and waxy covering. In the novel BCA system the modified parasitized mealybug mummies are processed in a manner that strips off their waxy covering and detaches their limbs without impacting on their viability as a host for parasitoid pupae. The modified parasitized mealybug mummies of the BCA system are encased in specially adapted packaging for delivering and distributing the modified parasitized mealybug mummies to plants with mealybug infestations. A method of preparing and storing the modified parasitized mealybug mummies as a BCA is also presented.
