    Abstract: A hollow non-wood baseball or softball bat wherein the impact portion of the bat contains an inner multi-walled barrel that is positioned by means of a (i) foam insert, (ii) tube extending from the bat's knob, or (iii) line attached to the bat's knob and end cap and extending throughout the bat such that the inner barrel does not come into contact with the inside wall of the bat when the bat is at rest yet when swung the inner barrel is allowed to move so as to amplify the rebound effect given to the ball upon impact with the bat.

    Abstract: The system provides an improved and durable bat, that is also resistant to vibration, while still maximizing performance characteristics. In one embodiment, a thermal heat shrink to encase the bat with a more durable, crack and chip resistant outer layer. In one embodiment, polyolefin is used as the heat shrink materials. The heat shrink material also reduces vibration effects significantly.

    Abstract: A tunable insert is provided that may be placed within a baseball/softball bat at or near its sweet spot. The insert may allow for fine tuning of the bat's compressive strength, and thus the bat's performance. Two opposing inner sleeves may be received within a tapered inner core and may be drawn together with a threaded fastening member. When the inner sleeves are pulled together, the insert segments are pushed outward. The segmented outer piece of the insert may be directly in contact with a ring member or inner barrel that is positioned between the barrel and the tunable insert. When torque is applied to the threaded fastener, the segmented outer piece expands, thus also expanding the ring member. As the ring member expands, it gets nearer to the bat's inner surface. The relative distance of the ring member to the bat's inner surface tunes the stiffness of the bat.

    Abstract: A knob sleeve for a ball bat extending along a longitudinal axis and having a tubular handle portion and a knob attached to the handle portion. The knob sleeve includes a tubular body having a distal end and a proximal end. The body defines a central bore for receiving the handle portion. The body includes at least first and second regions positioned adjacent the distal and proximal ends of the body, respectively. The first and second regions have first and second maximum outside diameters, respectively. The second maximum outside diameter is greater than the first maximum outside diameter. Each of the first and second regions has a height measured with respect to the longitudinal axis of at least 0.4 inch.

    Abstract: A ball bat includes a handle portion with a handle secured in a sleeve in the handle portion. A void is defined within the knob and is not occupied by nor positioned within handle. The void may be defined by a gap between an end of the handle and a base of a sleeve. The gap may be defined by a smaller diameter opening, ribs (integral or separate insert), or protrusions. A void may be defined between an end of the knob and a base of the sleeve and may be occupied by stiffening ribs. The knob may be formed of two parts aligned using one or both of a pin and a locking tab. Parts of the knob extending outwardly from the sleeve may also include a void.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are various forms of hybrid baseball bats comprising a wood shell having a radial wall and an outer radial surface profile defining a baseball bat. The wood shell having a central core with a central surface thereon extending from a distal end of the bat. The central surface being profiled with a taper that in some embodiments extends entirely through to the proximal end. A fibrous construct is housed in the central core and infiltrated with an epoxy resin. In some forms, the fibrous construct is in the form of a sleeve. Disclosed are various manufacturing techniques for manufacturing hybrid baseball bats including a low pressure bladder method, a high pressure bladder method, and a centrifugal force method.
