摘要: A method for making a beam from a metal sheet (10), includes the steps of providing a metal sheet having opposite first and second side edges (12, 14) extending longitudinally along opposing sides of the metal sheet, and a first and a second generally parallel opposing face surfaces (16, 18) provided between the first and second edges. The first and second generally parallel opposing faces define a thickness of the metal sheet therebetween. The thickness of the metal sheet is split at one of the first and second side edges to form first and second integral flanges (28, 30, 32, 34) from a portion of the metal sheet such that inner ends of the first and second flanges remain integrally connected with an unsplit portion (44) of the metal sheet. The first and second flanges are then bent so as to provide the metal sheet with a tubular portion extending along one side of and integrally formed with the unsplit portion. The first and second flanges are then fixed against movement relative to one another.

摘要: A method of manufacturing loading plane border frame tubes for chairs utilizes continuous roll-forming processes to roll a base material to form loading plane border frame tubes for use on chairs. The processes include: transport a steel sheet to a roller leveler for flattening; then roll the steel sheet through a first roller calender, a second roller calender, a third roller calender, and a fourth roller calender to form a semi-finished tube; send the semi-finished tube to a high frequency generator for welding and soldering at high temperature; trim the semi-finished tube in a trimming machine; and roll the semi-finished tube through a fifth roller calender to form a finished tube of a selected shape for making border frames of loading planes of the chairs.

摘要: The present invention includes both the device and the method for utilizing two wedge shaped halves to retract a stud used to deform rivet nut material, thereby setting the rivet nut. The tool consists of two wedge shaped halves and a stud passing through both halves, extending to receive the threads of an uncompressed rivet nut. A slide screw controls the wedging action, causing the stud to retract. A stabilizing member is utilized to resist the rotational forces created during activation of the slide screw. The slide screw allows the top wedge and bottom wedge to slidably relate to one another, allowing the stud to increasingly extend beyond the bottom wedge. The extended stud threads into a rivet nut which is then passed through a predrilled hole in the material to which the rivet nut is to be fastened. Upon activation, the slide screw causes the top wedge to slide along the bottom wedge. The wedging action decreases the length of the stud extending beyond the bottom piece, creating a withdrawal force that causes the compression area of the rivet nut to deform, setting the rivet nut in the material.

摘要: A two-stage hemming machine has a centrally located press station with an anvil extendable along a vertical axis, and a loading station and an unloading station located on opposite sides of the press station. Separate first and second dies slide on horizontal tracks mounted above the press, the first die movable therealong between the loading station and the press station, and the second die movable between the unloading station and the press station. The dies shuttle back and forth, in unison, between the press station during a production cycle wherein a component to be hemmed is loaded into the first die in the loading station, is carried into the press station along with the first die where the first stage of the hemming operation occurs, and remains on the anvil as the anvil is lowered. The first die then returns to the loading station as the second die moves into the press station. The anvil is extended again to perform a second stage of the hemming operation, the anvil is retracted, the component remaining in contact with the second die, and the second die moves to the unloading station where the component is removed from the press. Spring actuated arms hold the component in connection with the first die as the first die moves to the press station, and a power actuated retaining arm holds the component in connection with the second die as the second die moves to the unloading station.

摘要: A machine for hemming a sheet metal assembly is disclosed in which the sheet metal assembly includes an inner sheet metal panel and an outer sheet metal panel. The outer panel also has an outer lip which lies in a plane transverse with respect to the plane of the inner panel from a bend line in the outer panel. The inner panel also has an outer edge spaced inwardly a few millimeters from the bend line of the outer panel. The apparatus includes a base and a nest adapted to receive and support the sheet metal assembly, and this nest is movably mounted relative to the base. A final hem tool mounted to the base performs a final hem operation. This final hem tool has a generally planar section overlying the outer edge of the inner panel and a portion of the lip following a prehem operation. The final hemming tool also includes a second curvilinear section adjacent the first planar section and this second curvilinear section overlies the remainder of the lip and extends to the bend line. A tangent of the curvilinear section intersects the plane of the first planar section at an angle of less than 20°. A conventional actuator is utilized to move the nest relative to the sheet metal assembly to compress the sheet metal assembly against the final hemming tool to complete the hem.

摘要: A chair base includes a rigid base member having a plurality of elongate tubular leg members disposed angularly around and radiating outwardly from a central hub. Each leg member adjacent an outer free end thereof has a hub structure defining a through vertical bore for retaining the pintle of a caster. The hub structure includes coaxially aligned upper and lower sleevelike hub parts which are monolithically and integrally joined to and extruded transversely into the interior of the leg member from the respective top and bottom walls thereof. The pintle-retaining hub structure is formed by a pierce-and-extrude process whereby small pilot openings are initially formed through the respective walls, and the annular wall portion surrounding the respective pilot opening is thereafter transversely extruded to effect forming of the respective hub part. The pierce-and-extrude process for each hub part is, in a preferred process, carried out by a single forming tool.

摘要: A hemming machine having a stationary base and defining a work station. A lifting beam is vertically movably mounted to the base at the work station while a motor assembly moves the lifting beam between a raised and a lowered position. Two die cartridges, each having hemming tooling and a nest vertically movably mounted to the die cartridge, are horizontally movable relative to the base by a conveyor assembly. A conveyor motor selectively moves the die cartridges between a position laterally spaced from the work station and the work station. With the die cartridge positioned at the work station, a first clamp releasably secures the nest to the lifting beam while a second clamp assembly releasably secures the die cartridge to the base. With the nest secured to the lifting beam and the die cartridge secured to the base, hemming operations are performed at the work station in the conventional fashion.

摘要: A hemming assembly and method for joining the edges of a pair of panels together includes a main die supporting edges of the two panels, a pre-hem slide supporting a pre-hem tool, a final die holder supporting a final die, and at least one drive to move the tool and die for pre-hemming and final hemming, respectively. A mechanism guides the pre-hem slide first vertically for at least partial pre-hemming, and then at an angle to expose the pre-hemmed edges for final hemming. Vertical travel of the pre-hem tool against the edges produces a superior and less distorted joint, and pre-hemming and final hemming can be performed in one overall stroke. A number of assemblies can be arranged to pre-hem and final hem a number of edges.

摘要: A flange bending apparatus for bending an upstanding flange on an inside perimeter of an automotive window opening. A flanging steel drive reciprocally drives a flanging steel between retracted and extended positions on a frame. The retracted position of the first flanging steel allows a metal panel workpiece to be positioned on the frame with the flanging steel extending through an opening in the workpiece. When in the extended position the flanging steel overlies a portion of an inside perimeter of the opening. As it moves toward the extended position the flanging steel engages an inner surface of an upstanding workpiece flange that extends upward from around the inside perimeter of the workpiece opening. The flanging steel then bends the flange radially outward as the drive continues to move the steel to the extended position. The flanging steel bends the workpiece flange radially outward such that a lateral bend line is formed along the flange where no breakline was present before bending.
