Abstract: A purifying device for removing impurities from liquid metal present in a vessel includes a baffle including a first surface and a second surface disposed opposite the first surface. A vent channel is formed between the first surface and the second surface, the vent channel having a proximal end and a distal end opposite the proximal end, the vent channel configured to receive a stream of gas at the proximal end and vent at least some of the stream of gas at the distal end. At least one first vent hole is arranged on the first surface and extending into the vent channel, and at least one second vent hole arranged on the second surface and extending into the vent channel. A passage for liquid metal flow is disposed within the baffle, the passage having a proximal surface and a distal surface, where the distal surface is disposed adjacent to the proximal end of the vent channel.

Abstract: A continuous casting process of a steel semi-product is provided. The process includes a step of casting using a hollow jet nozzle located between a tundish and a continuous casting mould. The nozzle includes, in its upper part, a dome for deflecting the liquid metal arriving at the inlet of the nozzle towards the internal wall of the nozzle, defining an internal volume with no liquid metal. A simultaneous step of injecting powder through a hole of the dome occurs. The powder has a particle size of 200 μm or less. The dome includes a first device to inject the powder without any contact with the dome and a second device to avoid sticking or sintering of the powder onto the first device.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a casting cluster for casting a body of a golf club head made of titanium or a titanium alloy. The casting cluster comprises a receptor and a plurality of runners coupled to the receptor and configured to receive molten metal from the receptor. The casting cluster also includes at least twenty-eight main gates. At least two of the main gates are coupled to each of the runners and each main gate is configured to receive molten metal from a corresponding one of the plurality of runners. The casting cluster further comprises at least twenty-eight molds. Each mold of the at least twenty-eight molds is configured to receive molten metal from a corresponding one of the main gates and to cast a body of a golf club head that has a volume of at least 100 cm3.

Abstract: The invention provides a casting equipment (1) for casting melt (15) into a cast product (80) comprising a supply reservoir (10) for supplying the melt (15), a distribution reservoir (20), a casting apparatus (25) having a melt inlet connected to the distribution reservoir (20) for producing the cast product (80), a supply conduit (30) fluidly connecting the supply reservoir (10) and the distribution reservoir (20), an electromagnetic pump (35) provided on the supply conduit (30) and operable to generate a force in the melt (15) in the supply conduit (30), a level sensor (40) for measuring a level of the melt (15) in the distribution reservoir (20) and/or in the supply reservoir (10), a controller operably connected to the pump (35) and the level sensor (40), wherein the supply conduit (30) is sealed or sealable from a pressure of the atmosphere, wherein the controller is configured to control an operation of the pump (35) based on a level signal from the level sensor (40), and wherein, at least during a steady-state casting operation, the casting equipment is configured such that the supply conduit (30) defines a flow path that has a point that is higher than a surface of the melt in the supply reservoir (10) and/or the distribution reservoir (20), and the pump (35) is operated such that the metal level in the distribution reservoir (20) is at a predefined level such as to control a pressure of the melt (15) in the melt inlet of the casting apparatus (25).

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention provides a method of preparing a reinforced refractory joint between refractory sections of a vessel used for containing or conveying molten metal, e.g. a metal-contacting trough. The method involves introducing a mesh body made of metal wires into a gap between metal-contacting surfaces of adjacent refractory sections of a vessel so that the mesh body is positioned beneath the metal conveying surfaces, and covering the mesh body with a layer of moldable refractory material to seal the gap between the metal-contacting surfaces. Other embodiments relate to a vessel formed by the method and a vessel section with a pre-positioned mesh body suitable for preparing a sealed joint with other such sections.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for using magnetic fields (e.g., changing magnetic fields) to control metal flow conditions during casting (e.g., casting of an ingot, billet, or slab). The magnetic fields can be introduced using rotating permanent magnets or electromagnets. The magnetic fields can be used to induce movement of the molten metal in a desired direction, such as in a rotating pattern around the surface of the molten sump. The magnetic fields can be used to induce metal flow conditions in the molten sump to increase homogeneity in the molten sump and resultant ingot.
