摘要： According to some embodiments, a railcar comprises: an underframe comprising a center sill extending longitudinally along a centerline of the railcar; a hopper coupled to the underframe and comprising a discharge opening; and a discharge assembly coupled to the hopper. The discharge assembly comprises: a sloped side sheet, and a discharge gate frame in a plane offset from horizontal and extending from a bottom of the sloped side sheet to proximate the center sill. The discharge gate frame at least partially surrounds the discharge opening. The discharge assembly further comprises a discharge gate coupled to the discharge gate frame. The discharge gate is operable to move from a closed position that restricts a lading from discharging to an open position that permits the lading to discharge. Moving from the closed position to the open position comprises moving at an angle upward and transverse to the railcar.

The hatch is moveable between a closed position and an open position for selectively covering the cargo well opening. A hatch positioning system including a drive shaft that is coupled to the support frame, a locking assembly that is coupled to the drive shaft and is configured to selectively engage a locking bar, a positioning assembly that is coupled to the drive shaft, and a drive assembly that is coupled to the drive shaft.

摘要： A gate assembly for a hopper car having an enclosure for holding and transporting particulate matter and a plurality of openings along a bottom of the car through which particulate matter is discharged. The gate assembly is designed to allow for either pneumatic discharge of the particulate matter as a result of pressure differentials applied to the outlet on the hopper car or gravitational discharge of the particulate matter through a covered discharge plenum depending from a discharge opening defined by the frame of the gate assembly. The gate assembly further includes seal structure and a gate mounted on the frame for elevational movements between sealed and unsealed conditions and for sliding movements between open and closed positions. The gate assembly further includes a mechanism for arranging the frame, the gate and the seal structure in sealed relationship relative to each other such that a gage pressure of up to 15 psig. can be established in the enclosure of the car during unloading of the particulate matter. To reduce the effort required to condition the car for unloading and transport, the mechanism for sealing the gate relative to the frame of the gate assembly furthermore acts to arrange the cover used to seal the discharge opening in timed relationship with the sealing/unsealing of the gate assembly. The gate assembly further includes seal structure biased against an underside of the gate to seal closed the opening through which the gate horizontally reciprocates between the open and closed positions. Furthermore, edge seals are spring biased against opposed edges of the gate to enhance the sealing relationship of the gate to the frame of the gate assembly.

摘要： An outlet gate assembly for a hopper type railway car includes a frame adapted to be mounted on an outlet opening in the rail car and a gate in the frame. A conventional rack and pinion opening and closing drive moves the gate between open and closed positions on the frame. An inertial latch mechanism latches the gate in the fully closed position. Actuation of the opening and closing drive displaces the latch to automatically unlatch the gate. Upon impact, an inertial mass bears directly against the latch and transmits a latching force holding the latch closed and preventing opening of the gate.

摘要： The present invention is a control device that allows an operator to partially open a gate valve found at the bottom of a railway freight car hopper in order to obtain a sample of a flowable particulate or granular product contained within the hopper but preventing the gate valve from fully opening so as to partially unload the hopper. The device is provided with a rotatable operating shaft having attaching to it a structure for opening and closing the gate valve in response to rotation of the operating shaft. The operating shaft is provided with two ends that extend through end panels of the hopper. One of the two ends is provided with a lockable sample control handle and the second of the two ends is provided with an angled slot by which a lockable control handle movably attaches. The angled slot allows the operating shaft to be rotated when the control handle is locked closed by unlocking and turning the sample control handle. The limited rotation of the operating shaft allowed by the angled slot is sufficient to partially open the gate valve in order that the sample be obtained. However, the gate valve cannot open fully as long as the control handle is locked closed because the angled slot limits rotation of the operating shaft.

摘要： A gate mechanism for a bulk material handling container such as a railway hopper car. The gate mechanism comprises a chute attached to the bottom of the hopper and having a discharge opening, a frame attached to the side of the chute, a gate slide mounted within the frame, a slider for providing a low friction, non-metallic contact surface between the gate slide and the frame, a drive mechanism for opening and closing the gate slide, a seal for preventing any discharge through the closed discharge opening, and a lock for securing the gate slide in a closed position. The slider comprises elongated bodies made of solid bars of non-metallic, low friction material such as Teflon (trade mark), and provides a non-corroding, easily maintainable method for the smooth opening and closing of the discharge opening. The lock comprises a shaped spring bar made of resilient metal, which provides a simple and automatic means of holding the gate slide closed.

摘要： This disclosure relates to a frame adapted to be attached to a hopper car, a door plate slidably mounted on the frame, and an automatically engageable lock mounted on the frame adjacent the door plate and operable to hold the door plate closed when engaged. The lock includes pivotably mounted parts including a latch. One of the parts, which may be the latch, has a seal hole therein, and this seal hole is aligned with another seal hole in the frame when the lock is engaged. The seal holes are spaced from an adjacent edge of the frame a distance which is related to the size of the seal band such that there is little slack in the seal when the parts are coupled together. Further, the parts are shaped to require a substantial turning movement of the latch before the lock is disengaged, and the latch is unable to turn this distance because of the small amount of slack in the seal. Consequently the lock is prevented from accidentally disengaging when the seal is in place.
