    摘要: A tuned exhaust gas relief system for marine propulsion systems, for example an outboard motor, includes a lower drive shaft housing coupled to a two stroke engine by a pair of intermediate stacked exhaust extension plates. The housing directs the exhaust gas downwardly to a through-the-hub exhaust propeller for exit therethrough. With the unit in reverse or idling, exhaust gases are trapped within the housing. A pair of tuned exhaust relief passageways may be formed by cavities in the mating faces of the two extension plates with a pair of inlet openings in the lower wall of the bottom plate. A baffle member may overlie the inlet openings. The passageways define constant cross-sectional area channels which terminate in exhaust openings in the rear wall of the drive shaft housing. A resonant cavity, which may be integrally formed by mating recesses in the opposed faces of the extension plates, is in close spaced relation to each idle exhaust passageway. Connecting openings are distributed along the length of the common wall between the cavity and passageway. An exhaust housing within the drive shaft housing forms an exhaust expansion chamber of high acoustical impedance between the lower ends of the exhaust pipe means and the upper wall extension plate assembly. The idle exhaust passageways have a low acoustical impedance, so that the acoustical impedance mismatch between the chamber and the passageways attenuates the high frequency sounds. The idle exhaust passageways may transmit the half wave frequency and even multiplies thereof. The resonator cavity is selected to attenuate the particular half wave frequency, or an even multiple thereof, which because of physical space requirements may be present and not attenuated by the idle exhaust passageway means.

    摘要: Provided is a trimming and stabilizing arrangement for motor-driven vessels of the type in which the engine of the vessel is placed in the stern thereof and comprises either an outboard engine or an inboard engine with an outboard drive, wherein the propeller driven by the engine is located beneath a holding device in the form of a fin, serving as a stabilizer, and wherein the steering of the vessel is effected by pivoting the propeller about a vertical axis. A plate is arranged to coact with the fin and extends over the propeller and beyond the propeller sternwardly of the vessel. The plate has a downwardly facing planar surface, the edges of which in the direction of movement of the vessel are curved downwardly. The holding device and plate comprise at least two parts, one of which co-acts with and embraces the motor leg of the engine immediately above the propeller, and the other part comprises a planar plate co-acting with the holding device via attachment apparatus.

A steering push-pull cable and electrical cables for guided and protected movement during the raising of the motor. The handle is formed with rectangular cross-section and of a relatively stiff, rubber and tapers from a heavy, stable end connected to the head to a relatively thin section outer grip end. The handle extends inwardly into the boat for convenient pulling directly backwardly on the outer end of the handle to cause the motor to pivot upwardly and inwardly into the boat without kinking of the cables and without twisting of the handle in the operator's hand.

    摘要: The invention is an improvement to a guidance system used in a pontoon boat which is powered by an outboard motor. The guidance system includes a steering wheel mechanically coupled to and mounted to the pontoon boat, a push-pull cable mechanically coupled to the steering wheel and operated in response to movement thereof, a push-pull cable mounting which is mechanically coupled to the push-pull cable and rigidly mounted to the pontoon boat. The guidance system also includes an outboard motor, having a lever arm disposed a particular distance from its vertical axis, and a base rigidly mounted to the pontoon boat and mechanically coupled to the outboard motor so that the outboard motor may pivot about its vertical axis. The improvement to the guidance system includes a first member having a first U-shaped end mechanically coupled to the push-pull cable mounting and a second U-shaped end, a second member having a first end mechanically coupled to said second U-shaped end and a second end, with the second member having a slot disposed between its first and second ends and a coupling device coupling the push-pull cable to the slot thereby mechanically coupling the second member to the push-pull cable, and a connecting device for connecting the second end of the second member to the lever arm of the outboard motor.

Also included in the disclosed outboard motor is an upwardly open water guard which extends upwardly from above the lower unit, in watertight encircling relation to the engine, to above the at-rest water level.

The vertically driving means and the body are connected together through a link mechanism. Such arrangement makes it possible to turn the whole of the ship propelling device independently of any vertical movement thereof, contributing to reduction of the production cost and a stable steering operation of the propelling device.
