    摘要: Stretch wrap film is wound on a mandrel or core which is longer than the roll of film to extend out of both ends. A rotatable handle is mounted on the core outboard of the film. Relative braking between the handle and core is adjusted by means of a screwthread which tightens a friction brake. The dispenser is carried around an article to be wrapped and the tension of the film is controlled by adjusting the brake by rotating its controlling nut. With a large core, an extension can be attached to a plug therein. Furthermore, instead of a spiral surface as on a nut and stud, a spring may be used to control brake force.

    摘要: A reel comprised of a round cylindrical housing having one integral end wall closure providing a hand grip grip means, and a spool rotatably journaled within the cylindrical housing chamber. The spool includes a rewind handle, extending outwardly of the open mouth of the cylindrical chamber whereby said spool may be rotated in either direction. The fishing line which is normally stored on the spool is manually cast in a conventional manner causing the line to peel off of the spool through the open mouth until it settles in the water. A pair of generally diametrically opposed rewind slots are provided through the cylindrical housing, each being provided with an access slot, opening from the open mouth to the rewind slot, through which the line is passed into the rewind slot after each cast, the pair of slots providing for both right-hand and left-hand use. A snap on the closure cap is included to close the open mouth when the reel is not in use.

    摘要: A strip of exposed film which issues from a developing machine is convoluted onto the core of a horizontal takeup reel whose flange or flanges rest on the peripheral surface of a horizontal roller which is driven to rotate the reel in a direction to convolute the strip. The strip is braked by a tensioning device between the developing machine and the reel, and the latter is thereby maintained in a first position of abutment with the concave internal surface of a first locating device and in contact with the driven roller. A spring-biased lever urges the reel to a second position in which the reel is out of contact with the roller and abuts against the concave inner side of a second locating device. The lever is free to move the reel sideways and to the second position as soon as the action of the tensioning device upon the strip is terminated, namely, as soon as the trailing end of the strip advances beyond the tensioning device. The first locating device is mounted between the second locating device and the tensioning device, and the two locating devices define a gap for the upper portion of the roller. The latter is nearer to the first than to the second locating device and its upper portion is engaged by the flange or flanges of the reel when the latter is held in the first position.

    摘要: There is provided a measuring apparatus for successively and intermittently feeding one or more elongate workpieces (A) to a working machine. Between an attachment means (2) and a fixed clamping element (4) there is arranged a further clamping element (7) which is reciprocatingly movable along a pair of guides (6). As the movable clamping element (7) makes a working stroke, the workpiece (A) is able to pass freely through the fixed clamping element (4). Upon return movement of the movable clamping element (7), however, the workpiece is held by the fixed clamping element, with the movable clamping element (7) returning to its rearward limit position out of engagement with the workpiece. The movable clamping element (7) is connected, via a piston rod (10), to the piston (9) of a pneumatic cylinder (8) of variable volume, said cylinder having an end plate (11) which is displaceable therein. The end plate (11) is held in selected positions along the cylinder (8) by means of a displaceable clamping ring (12) arranged to co-operate with a screw and nut arrangement (13). The end plate (11) has arranged therein a compressed-air connection (16), a damper (18), and a reversing valve (19), and defines the rear limit position of the movable clamping element (7). The forward limit position of said clamping element is determined by a reversing valve (39) arranged in said movable clamping element and adapted to co-act with a movable abutment (27) in the fixed clamping element (4). The length of stroke of the apparatus can be roughly set by positioning the end plate (11) in the cylinder (8) and then finely adjusting the setting of the working stroke (27).

The apparatus may be used for manual or machine application of film to materials. Brake shoe equivalents of the grip means may be used for machine applications.

    摘要: A strip feeder particularly for punch dies comprises drive and idler rollers engageable with opposite faces of the strip being fed, a spring-loaded member displaceable in a first direction during the foward stroke upon receiving an impact and returned by the spring during the return stroke, a first one-way clutch effective to decouple the drive roller from the displaceable member during the forward stroke and to couple same during the return stroke, and a second one-way clutch effective to couple the idler roller to the fixed frame during the forward stroke and to decouple same during the return stroke. The described one-way clutch comprises a first member having an external annular surface and a second member including an internal bore for rotably receiving the latter. The second member further includes a cylindrical cavity terminating at its inner end in a small opening communicating with the bore, the axis of the cavity being at an acute angle with respect to a line tangent to the bore at the center of the opening. A displaceable wedging element is disposed within the cavity and has a nose projectable through the opening, the wedging element being biassed by a spring to permit relative rotation between the two members in one direction but to block same in the opposite direction.

    摘要: The paper advance mechanism disclosed herein comprises two essentially identical paper-engaging devices, one fixed, one driven, which cooperate to incrementally advance the paper in a hand-held printing calculator. Each device includes a tapered cavity enclosing a roller which engages the paper as it passes therethrough. The position of the roller in the cavity determines whether that device slidably or non-slidably engages the paper and the position of the roller is determined by the movement of the paper itself. The paper-engaging devices alternately non-slidably engage the paper; when the driven device moves in one direction, it non-slidably engages and thus advances the paper as it moves, and the paper slides through the fixed device; when the driven device reverses direction, it slidably engages the paper as it returns to the start of its travel and the fixed device non-slidably engages the paper to hold the advanced paper in position.

    摘要: A device for braking the rotation of a rotating roll of a sheet material such as paper, cardboard, or the like, when the reeling of the sheet material has been completed. The device is used in connection with a machine which has a rotary reel spool which rotates about its axis during reeling of sheet material thereon. Adjacent one end of the reel spool is a carriage, and both the carriage and the reel spool are guided for free movement along parallel paths perpendicular to the axis of the reel spool so that the carriage can be maintained along the axis of the reel spool during building of the roll of the sheet material thereon. The braking device includes one part which is fixed to the end of the reel spool which is adjacent the carriage while the remainder of the braking device is carried by the carriage for movement with respect thereto into cooperation with the part of the braking device which is fixed to the end of the reel spool so that when the braking device operates it will act through the part of the braking device fixed to the end of the reel spool in order to retard the rotation of the reel spool with the sheet material wound thereon.

    摘要: A method of applying vacuum tension to a web during changeover from a web of one width to a web of another width comprising the steps of advancing the web along a path of advance; applying vacuum tension to the web substantially across the entire web; applying the vacuum tension to a centermost portion of the web prior to changing the width of the web, the centermost portion being equal to or narrower then the narrowest web to be advanced; and thereafter applying vacuum tension substantially across the entire width of the web then being advanced. The preferred apparatus for performing the method is a web guiding and tensioning apparatus of the type including a vacuum chamber for applying subatmospheric pressure to a smooth side of the web for tensioning the web and a guide for guiding the web along its path of advance, the vacuum chamber comprising: a perforated plate extending across the width of the web through which subatmospheric pressure is applied to the web: a central vacuum chamber in communication with the central portion of the perforated plate and having a source of vacuum connected thereto; a side vacuum chamber adjacent to each lateral end of the central vacuum chamber and in communication with lateral portions of the perforated plate, each of the side chambers including a laterally adjustable piston therein for limiting the area of the lateral portion of the perforated plate exposed to the subatmospheric pressure; and a selectively operable valve connecting the central chamber to each of the side chambers for supplying vacuum thereto in a first operating mode and for discontinuing the supply of vacuum thereto in a second operating mode, for controlling the area of the perforated plate through which subatmospheric pressure is applied to the web during changeover from a web one width to a web of another width.
