The process entails reacting a polyisocyanate, a polyol and a chain extender, which have a temperature of at least 170° C., in a static mixer, wherein the reaction mixture is prepared. The reaction mixture is then metered into an extruder into which optional auxiliaries and/or further components are fed.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing hydroxy-functional polyurethane carbonates by reacting a) a dihydroxy- or higher hydroxy-functional polymer having a number average molecular weight of 500 to 100,000 and containing aliphatic carbonate groups and optionally ester groups with b) compounds containing at least one primary or secondary amino group and at least one hydroxy group to form urethane groups, wherein components a) and b) are present in amounts which correspond to a molar ratio of carbonate and ester groups of component a) to primary and secondary amino groups of component b) of greater than 1:1 to 20:1. The present invention also relates to the hydroxy-functional polyurethane carbonates obtained by this process and to their use as a binder component in polyurethane compositions, especially coating compositions.

Disclosed is a new class of TPUs with improved properties, based on poly(1,3-propanediol carbonate) diol, using 10 to 55% hard segment concentration, and cured with a diisocyanate. The composition provides a broader range of mechanical and thermal properties for TPU formulations, including improvements in hardness, higher elasticity modulus, and improved softening temperature and coefficient of thermal expansion, in addition to improved clarity.

The present invention provides a gripping part such as a steering wheel and a grip, having a soft feeling equivalent to a RIM urethane and excellent sweat resistance, without the need of coating, which solves problems involved in RIM urethane steering wheels and grips including low productivity, low recycling property, and the like. That is, a gripping part comprising a foamed product of a thermoplastic elastomer with a 1.1 to 8.0 times expansion ratio, wherein the thermoplastic elastomer is a polyurethane elastomer comprises a specific polymer polyol, a polyisocyanate, and as needed, a chain extending agent reactive with the polyisocyanate.
