A device for regulating the temperature of a gas in a hot gas main for feeding hot gas to a blast furnace includes a mixing pot with two mixing chambers in fluid communication with each other by means of a Venturi restriction. The first mixing chamber includes three inlet ports for feeding hot gas into the first mixing chamber, feeding cold gas into the first mixing chamber and feeding cold gas into the second mixing chamber, respectively. The first mixing chamber further includes an outlet port for feeding a first stream of mixed gas from the first mixing chamber to a first gas distribution system. The second mixing chamber includes a second outlet port for feeding a second stream of mixed gas from the second mixing chamber to a second gas distribution system. The first and second streams of mixed gas have different temperatures.

Methods and apparatus are provided for regulating the percentage quantities of individual gases present in the combustion air supplied for reaction processes in metallurgy. This is achieved by utilizing molecular sieve absorption processes upon the intake air in a sequential manner to remove undesirable gases attendant with the intake air and to enhance and regulate the quantity of oxygen present. The arrangement may be operated in a continuous manner through the utilization of several molecular sieve devices wherein one of such devices may be purged for regeneration and later use by countercurrent flow of heated intake air which air has been heated by the heat derived from the metallurgical reaction process in the first place.

Apparatus for dehydrating air to be supplied to a blast furnace comprising a dehydration assembly wherein intake air is dehydrated by contact with a circulating hygroscopic liquid and a regeneration assembly wherein the liquid is regenerated by contact with air under heating with steam, characterized in that a cylinder through which a part of the circulating liquid is caused to flow is provided for comparing the pressure of the liquid with a reference liquid to detect the concentration of the circulating liquid, the regeneration assembly is divided into a plurality of independently operable units each having regeneration means, means for controlling the steam flow rate according to the detected concentration, means for controlling the liquid flow rate according to the detected concentration, and at least one heat exchanger for transferring sensible heat between at least one fluid entering said regeneration means and at least one fluid leaving said regeneration means.
