Abstract:
A device for atomizing melts, in particular liquid slags, includes a tundish intended to receive the melts and an atomizer head arranged in or on the outlet opening, A cooling chamber for the atomized melt is connected to the atomizer head. The atomizer head is designed as a hot cyclone running into the cooling chamber. Burners and/or propellant gas nozzles are connected to the hot cyclone.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a dynamic control system that maintains an inert gas feed at a constant target gas flow rate sufficient to prevent or reduce alumina or alloy plugging within a slide gate discharge opening. The dynamic control system includes a gas feed line extending between an inert gas supply and the slide gate discharge passageway, a gas flow regulator, a pressure gauge; and a gas feed flow control that detects an amount of incoming inert gas lost through leaks in the system and adjusts the gas flow regulator in response to the detected amount of incoming gas flow loss so that the adjusted incoming gas feed continues to deliver the target inert gas flow rate to the discharge passageway.
Abstract:
An apparatus for preventing bulging of both edges of a strip while preventing contamination of a roll surface in a twin roll strip caster including a meniscus shield (5) and a plurality of weirs (12). The apparatus comprises: first chambers (60) arranged at both sides of the meniscus shield (5) in a longitudinal direction parallel to the casting roll (1) and having inlet and outlet ports for non-oxidizing gas; second chambers (80) each assembled to an underside in each of the first chambers (60) in a communicating fashion for receiving non-oxidizing gas from the first chambers (60), and including a plurality of holes (81) formed in an inclined face thereof corresponding to an outer peripheral face in each of the casting rolls (1 and 1a) in a longitudinal direction of the each casting roll (1 or 1a); and passages S formed between the meniscus shield (5) and the second chambers (80) and reaching the gas outlet ports of the first chambers for allowing contaminated gas containing evaporated metal components and non-oxidizing gas injected from the second chambers (80) to be outwardly exhausted.
Abstract:
Rotary injector for injecting gas into a liquid metal includes a drive shaft, stirring means, means for circulating the gas and means for emitting the gas. The emitting means is entirely or partially made of at least one material capable of being wetted by the liquid metal.
Abstract:
A molten bath-based direct smelting process for producing ferrous metal from a ferrous feed material is disclosed. The process is characterised by injecting pre-heated air downwardly into metallurgical vessel at an angle of 20 to 90null C. relative to a horizontal axis and at a temperature of 800-1400null C. and at a velocity of 200-600 m/s via at least one lance (27). This step forces molten material in the region of a lower end of the lance away from the lance and forming a nullfreenull space around the lower end of the lance that has a concentration of molten material that is lower than the molten material concentration in the raised bath. The process is further characterised in that the lance is located so that: (i) the lance extends into the vessel a distance that is at least the outer diameter of the lower end of the lance; and (ii) the lower end of the lance is at least 3 times the outer diameter of the lower end of the lance above a quiescent surface of the molten bath.
