摘要： A combination lock comprises a bolt which is withdrawn by depressing a bolt pin which is shielded by rotating discs having a movable disc pin within them. A selector pin attached to dial means is provided for engaging in selector holes in the discs and aligning the disc pins with one another and with the bolt pin, means being provided for pushing inwardly the disc pin on the outer disc and urging the other disc pins aligned therewith towards the bolt pin such that it is depressed and/or withdrawn. The discs have a weight attached at their circumference such that, during code setting, changing the position of the weight changes the relative angular position of the disc pin. When pressure is released from the mechanism, springs return the selector pin and the disc pins to their original positions and the weights on the discs fall, thereby rotating the discs and automatically scrambling the code.

摘要： A replacement plug adapted to substitute a key operated plug and tumblers in an existing tumbler lock without extensive modification of an existing installation in a door, thereby reducing the possibility of mechanical picking of the tumblers which are thereby eliminated. The combination tumblers are disposed for rotation about an axis disposed at right angles relative to the axis of rotation of an actuating knob, which is mounted on an axially shiftable shaft. Selection of the proper combination frees the shaft for axially outward movement whereby a lock opening means is connected to the, actuating knob for the transmission of rotating motion to a lock bolt or other locking structure.

摘要： A combination lock with a combination dial having a shaft extending through an elliptically shaped door aperture, through a wheel post, and through an elliptically shaped aperture in a lock stand to mount a cam and a plurality of locking wheels each having a slot which when properly positioned permits sliding movement of the dial, post wheels and a locking bolt mounted on the post to a release position in response to manually applied lateral force as the aligned slots move into an upstanding fence on the stand. A spring connected to the stand extends about the post to urge the post in the opposite direction toward a latch position. A detent member is pivotably mounted on the door with an upstanding portion engaging a cut-out portion of the bolt to latch the bolt in the release position and a cam portion which engages a rail on the door jamb when the door is shut to pivot the detent member against the urging of a spring to disengage the upstanding portion and permit the bolt, dial, wheels and post to return to the latch position.

摘要： In a popular form of changeable combination padlock there is a pivotally mounted, spring urged blocking lever whose lower end portion is pivotally associated with the clutch elements for the dialing wheels and whose upper end portion engages a pair of shackle locking bolts when the shackle is retracted and locked holding the locking bolts in a so-called "dead-bolt" condition. The last mentioned portion of the blocking lever is free to move, however, within a cavity in the lock case and bolt housing to disengage and release said locking bolts when the permutation mechanism is correctly operated for shackle unlocking purposes. In a changeable combination padlock of the type under consideration the cavity within the case wherein the upper portion of the blocking lever can move, is relatively commodious. In practice it has been found that a thief or tamperer, by pressing down on a portion of the shackle and rapping on a face of the padlock case with a tool or the like, can unauthorizedly impart vibrations to said blocking lever of such magnitude, permitted by the commodious cavity which accommodates said blocking lever portion as to permit disengagement of said blocking lever portion from the shackle locking bolts whereby the lock may be unauthorizedly unlocked with the dialing mechanism being bypassed. To overcome this disadvantage the present invention so mounts the described movable portion of the blocking lever within such a restricted cavity that rapping or like tampering actions by a thief or the like will be completely ineffectual to cause such vibratory movements of the blocking lever portion as would be sufficient to free it from the shackle locking bolts.

摘要： Lock handles and spindle have rotative and axial movements, without any exposed dial which might become polished to indicate the combination, one such movement making cam selection and the other effecting cam actuation, selection being made when the actuating parts are completely disengaged to eliminate any possibility of betraying the combination to a person having a sensitive touch. Tumblers readily interchangeable to vary the combination are entirely out of sight. Tumbler actuating cams are operated by an actuator selectively engageable therewith and which shortens progressively in each step of operation to determine its proper sequential functioning. In the instant device the cam heads successively engaged by the actuator are of successively increased length so that in proper functioning the combined length of the actuator and the cam head is always the same. Engagement with an incorrect cam will preclude correct operation and make it necessary for the operator to return to the starting point. Three tumblers are shown; any number within the physical capacity of the device may be used.

摘要： Dial structure for use with a lock or other mechanism which requires both rotary and axial input movements of an operating spindle. The structure includes an operating knob for imparting both such movements to the spindle, and a dial having position indicia and which is responsive to and follows rotary movement but not lineal movement of the knob. Other features include a bearing connection which provides a universal joint of the spindle in the dial frame, to accommodate minor misalignment of the dial structure with respect to the mechanism. A mask screens all position indicia except that in a narrow aperture, which is visible only to the operator.
