Embodiments of the present invention provide a mechanically strong and secure latch that cannot be easily broken or compromised by application of force to the door or by insertion of a tool or device between the door and an adjacent door frame to disable the latch, but that can be disabled by a knowledgeable individual, such as an apartment manger seeking to rescue a disabled apartment occupant in an emergency situation.

摘要： An improved pry bar for prying a vehicle door out from its frame, thereby creating a gap there between of sufficient size to insert a long tool or rod into the vehicle in order to manipulate the interior door lock button, lever, or handle. One of the unique features of this improved pry bar is the mechanical detachable pivot or fulcrum which is composed of a rubber cushion. This pivot or fulcrum permit both the application of sufficient pressure upon the door to displace it relative to the frame and yet cushion the mechanical load on the door frame to prevent damage thereof during this operation.

摘要： A system for locking a door can: (1) lock the door in dead bolt fashion in three modes, (2) allow the door to open a limited distance, or (3) allow the door to open freely. The system has a door-mounted latch assembly that includes a base plate, an intermediate link pivoted to the base plate, and a mode selection and latching assembly that is pivoted to the intermediate link. A latch plate is mounted on the door frame in juxtaposition to the door-mounted latch assembly. The latch plate has a tubular portion with an opening for receiving the latch member. A sleeve fits inside the tubular portion of the latch plate. When the latch member is engaged in the tubular portion of the latch plate, the sleeve can be rotated so that the latch member is engaged to the sleeve in a secured position. The latch plate includes a locking mechanism to releasably lock the sleeve into the secured position. The locking mechanism may be a spring-loaded pin mounted within the sleeve. When the sleeve is rotated into a secured position, the head of the spring-loaded pin protrudes through apertures in the sleeve and in the tubular portion of the latch plate, thereby preventing the sleeve from rotating. The locking mechanism may alternatively be a protrusion and slot system. A mechanism is also provided for locking and unlocking the locking system from the exterior of the door.

The device (10) includes a base plate (12) that is screwed onto a door frame (14), a first hinge plate (16) that is connected to the base plate (12) at a first hinge joint (56), a second hinge plate (18) that is similarly connected to the first hinge plate (16) at a second hinge joint (64), and a door plate (20) that is mounted on the door (22) and which incorporates a pair of hinge ears (92 and 94) between which is received a uniquely shaped hinge tongue (90) that is present at the end of the second hinge plate (18). A latch pin (24) that is also uniquely shaped, is insertable, when the door (22) is in a closed position, into ear bores (104 and 106) and a tongue bore (102) that are present within the hinge ears (92 and 94) and hinge tongue (90) to form a third hinge joint (108). The shape of the hinge tongue (90) and the interaction thereof with a biasing ramp (96) lying between the hinge ears (92 and 94) is such that as the door (22) is opened and the hinge tongue (90) rotates, the ear bores (104 and 106) and tongue bore (102) are forced out of axial alignment. When this occurs, a narrow barrel portion (134) of the latch pin (24) still permits hinging action, while upper and lower stops (130 and 132) present on the latch pin (24) provide that the latch pin (24) is locked into place, thereby preventing removal of the latch pin (24) by an intruder.

摘要： A hinged panel, mounted in a frame, has a latch comprising a toggle mechanism having a first link connected to the panel by a first pivot pin and a second link connected at one end to the first link by a second pivot pin. At its end opposite to the second pivot pin, the second link has an open-ended slot for receiving a third pivot pin which is mounted on the frame. A resilient retention lever is pivotally mounted on the second link and has a hook-like formation adapted to engage with the third pivot pin to retain it in the slot. At least one part of the periphery of the third pivot pin is flattened for that part of its length which is engaged by the hook-like formation. The retention lever is so arranged that the hook-like formation can disengage from the third pivot pin only by traversing the flattened surface.

The first arm is shorter than the second arm. The stay further includes a third arm which is pivotally coupled to the sash mounting plate at a pivot located to the side of pivot coupling which is opposite to pivot coupling of the first arm to the sash mounting plate. This third arm is pivotally coupled to a fourth arm with the fourth arm being pivotally coupled to the frame mounting plate. The first, second and fourth arms include structures which engage with stops associated with the frame and sash mounting plates when the stay is in the fully open position.

The restrictor device includes in combination an arm adapted for pivotal coupling to one of the closure member or frame and a latching member adapted for mounting with the other of the frame or closure member. The arm and latching members have cooperating elements which pivotally couple the arm with the latching member yet permits uncoupling of the arm from the latching member when the closure member is in a substantially predetermined position relative to the frame. The latching member includes a latch mechanism which prevents uncoupling of the arm when the closure is in the substantially predetermined position. There are operating mechanisms to enable the latch mechanisms to be operated such as to allow uncoupling of the arm to take place.
