    摘要: A downhole pump includes a pump barrel defining a pumping chamber having a first end and a second end, a first one-way valve positioned at the first end of the pumping chamber, a second one-way valve positioned at the second end of the pumping chamber and a plunger movable disposed in the pumping chamber. The first one-way valve is operable to permit a flow of fluid out of the first end of the pumping chamber, while the second one-way valve is operable to permit a flow of fluid out of the second end of the pumping chamber. The plunger has first and second ends facing the first and second ends of said pumping chamber respectively. The pumping chamber has an inlet adapted to be in flow communication with a production zone. The plunger is movable in the pumping chamber between at least a first position and a second position. The second end of the plunger is positioned on a first side of the inlet when the plunger is in the first position such that the inlet is in flow communication with the second end of the pumping chamber. The first end of the plunger is positioned on a second side of the inlet when the plunger is in the second position such that the inlet is in flow communication with the first end of the pumping chamber. An inlet member and a method of pumping fluid from a production zone located beneath the surface of the earth are also provided.

    摘要: A ball dropping assembly for dropping a plurality of objects, such as spherical balls, into a wellbore. The assembly first comprises a seat for retaining a ball before it is released. The assembly also comprises a ball-feeding channel for feeding additional balls onto the seat. A ball-retaining lever is provided to selectively receive and retain balls onto the seat, and then to release the balls individually into the wellbore. In one embodiment, the assembly is attached to a side bore in fluid communication with a main bore in a cementing head. The ball-retaining lever rotates into the bore when releasing a ball. When a plug is released into the bore from a cementing head, the plug will trip the lever, causing the ball-retaining lever to rotate back towards the ball-retained position. Thus, the ball dropping assembly also serves as a plug release indicator.

    摘要: A system is provided for unloading accumulated liquids and enhancing the recovery of gas from a reservoir having diminished pressure. An annulus between a tubing string and casing is isolated by a packer and continually pressurized with a slipstream of compressed gas while the well continues to produce. A unique valve positioned in the tubing string is shuttled between a production position in which production fluids are permitted to bypass the valve to the surface and a lift position in which the bypass is blocked and an unloading port is opened to vent high pressure annulus gas to the tubing string above the valve, lifting accumulated liquids with it. Preferably, the valve is actuated to the lift position by the impact of a plunger dropped from a lubricator at the wellhead, when the pressure in the annulus has reached a predetermined threshold. When the gas has been vented and the pressure in the annulus drops, the valve is actuated to the uphole production position as a result of the higher reservoir pressure.

    摘要: A constant-head soil permeameter for determining hydraulic conductivity of earthen materials is inserted into a borehole at the desired test depth. A calibrated reservoir, disposed on the ground surface, is attached thereto with a suitable length of hose. Water is added to the calibrated reservoir and allowed to flow freely into the borehole until an equilibrium level is reached in the borehole and inside the soil permeameter. The water flowing to the permeameter is throttled by buoyant float pressure that is greatly increased by a lever-and-link valve control assembly which provides considerable mechanical advantage, thereby allowing better constant head control and much greater depths of testing than previously attained by known permeameters. A filtered vent system, backflow check valve, and seals restrict entry of soil particles and debris, thereby minimizing cleaning and maintenance of the invention. The soil permeability is determined by solving appropriate mathematical equations which utilize the equilibrium height of water, rate of water flow, and dimensions of the borehole as input parameters.
