    摘要: A water heating apparatus having structure for recovering sensible and latent heat from flue gases generated in a heater thereof and transferring the heat to water to be heated. The apparatus has a closed circuit for liquid, such as water, in which are positioned two heat exchangers. One of the heat exchangers is positioned in the heater of the apparatus for transferring heat from a burner of the heater to liquid in the closed circuit. The other heat exchanger is positioned in a water pass-through system to heat the water therein. The apparatus has an air pass-through system for carrying flue gases from the heater out an exhaust pipe. The flue gases travel through a third heat exchanger positioned in the water pass-through system whereby sensible and latent heat from the flue gases are transferred to water in the water pass-through system, further heating the water therein.

A sleep mode is automatically started responsive to idle times, and a vacation mode is automatically started responsive to an identified number of days of no water usage. The user entered selections can include a normal temperature, a sleep temperature for the idle periods, and a vacation temperature. The user entered selections can include manual overrides of idle periods, auto control and learning mode.

    摘要: A high-efficiency hydronic heating system will make use of a direct-fired steam generator to directly heat the water in the hydronic heating system. The products of combustion, present with the steam due to the steam generator being direct-fired, are also introduced into the hydronic heating system water. Before venting the products of combustion from the packed column, heat from these products of combustion is extracted in a secondary heat exchanger to preheat the combustion air before it is used in the direct-fired steam generator. Water is a product of combustion. Over time, this excess water will overfill the hydronic heating system if it is not removed. A water dump system is used for the removal of the excess water. By measuring the water removed and the fuel used in the direct-fired steam generator, an efficiency can be calculated for visual feedback. The products of combustion will also tend to cause the water in the hydronic heating system to become acidic. Based on fuel usage, a basic substance is periodically added to the heating water to raise the PH to acceptable levels. Finally, a two-layer packed column is introduced, providing a lighter product.
