摘要:
A coin validation mechanism for evaluating coins and the like inserted therein and for validating acceptable coins includes a coin chute defining a coin path and a sensor for evaluating the type of material of which the object in the coin chute is made of. The sensor for evaluating includes a coil sensor positioned adjacent the coin path and a non-resonant electrical circuit for operation of the coil sensor. The coin validation mechanism also includes a light source for directing light across the coin path and a light sensor for sensing light directed across the coin path. An electronic unit is provided for evaluating an electromagnetic perturbation caused by an object moving past the coil sensor and for determining the amount of light blocked by the object in the coin path by comparing the amount of light sensed by the light sensor with the object in the coin with the amount of light sensed by the light sensor in the absence of an object in the coin path. The electronic unit further compares the amount of light blocked by the object in the coin path and the electromagnetic perturbation with known values for valid coins to evaluate whether the object in the coin path is a valid coin or not.

A coin sorting apparatus and method uses a light source (50) disposed on one side of the coin path (23); a coin moving member (21) of light transmissive material; a coin path insert (41) having at least a portion the is light transmissive; an optical detector (55) disposed on an opposite side of the coin path (23) from the light source (50) for detecting coin size as a coin (14) passes the coin path insert (41); a coin core alloy composition sensor (42); a coin surface alloy composition sensor (43); an edge sensor (46) disposed along a reference edge (45) along the coin path; and a plurality of processors (90, 94, 95, 107, 96) for receiving data developed from signals from the optical detector (55), the coin core alloy sensor (42), the coin surface (43) alloy detector, and the coin edge sensor (46), the data being for comparison with stored values for a plurality of denominations to determine the denomination of the coin (14). A lens array (56) helps direct light from the light source (55) to the optical detector (55). The coin path insert can have an upper surface of zirconia ceramic (34, 35) with a sapphire window (49), or the upper surface can be an integral sapphire element (37).

The invention provides a money sorting method and unit that can detect such a counterfeit as foreign money for which material, outer diameter and other features are very similar to a genuine coin, and that can decrease damage caused by the continuous trial of entry of counterfeit money. Sensors detect the material of a coin entered from a coin entry section, and at the same time, the outer diameter of the coin is detected by three sensors with a highly accurate method utilizing time ratio, pattern on the surface of the rolling coin is detected by converting output of the sensors to a basic pattern, and genuineness of the entered coin is judged based on these detection results. Detection detects features of the money entered from the money entry section based on output of the feature sensor, comparison judges whether the entered money is genuine or counterfeit, and if the entered money is a counterfeit, the counterfeit money is returned and at the same time an acceptance prohibition timer is activated, and while the acceptance prohibition timer is operating, acceptance is rejected whether the entered money is genuine or counterfeit.

A surface profile detecting device comprises a plurality of bar-like cores disposed in a line with predetermined intervals in a predetermined disposing direction. Each core has tip ends that are arranged on a single plane and which face a surface of an object to be measured having recesses and protrusions in a magnetic field such that they are relatively movable in a direction orthogonal to said disposing direction. The detecting device also includes detecting arrangement provided in each of the bar-like cores for detecting changes in magnetic flux generated due to the uneven profile of the object to be measured. An A/D converting device is provided for A/D converting the output of the detecting arrangement with a predetermined timing. A memory is also provided for storing the output from the AND converting device. The uneven profile of the object to be measured in a predetermined range is detected from the data stored in the memory.

The present invention provides for a metallic surface identifying sensor including: a magnetic pole portion for detection which shifts facing a surface of a magnetic body to be identified having an uneven shape wherein the distance from the surface to be identified changes along with the uneven shape while shifting; a reference magnetic pole portion which is placed across from a reference surface, wherein the distance from the reference surface to the magnetic pole portion is maintained approximately constant regardless of the shifting of the magnetic pole portion for detection in relation with the surface to be identified; magnetizing coils which are separately wound around the magnetic pole portion for detection and the reference magnetic pole portion to generate magnetic fluxes; and detecting coils which are separately wound around the magnetic pole portion for detection and the reference magnetic pole portion to detect the magnetic fluxes wherein the uneven shape of the surface to be identified of the metallic body is detected based on detection outputs from the magnetic pole portion. The present invention also provides for a differential magnetism sensor apparatus, a coin identifying apparatus, a magnetic sensor body, a coin identifying sensor, a displacement sensor and a proximity sensor.
