摘要： An apparatus and method thereof wherein a portable computer system or personal digital assistant generates a visual signal in response to an occurrence of a programmed event. For example, the portable computer system can use a light emitting diode to visually signal an alarm at a specified time. The visual signal can be varied in order to indicate the type of event associated with the alarm. In one implementation, the visual signal blinks at a particular rate depending on the type of event. In another implementation, the visual signal blinks a prescribed number of times or according to a particular pattern depending on the type of event. When enabled, the visual signal is generated in lieu of an audible signal, thus providing to the user a silent alarm that does not disturb other people in proximity, such as in a meeting, a theater, or some other gathering.

摘要： A strobe alarm system which includes multiple normally self-timed strobe circuits connected in a common loop to a fire alarm control panel, and a sync control circuit, which may be incorporated in the fire alarm control panel, for causing the strobes to flash in synchronism at a predetermined rate which will insure that a person viewing the multiple strobes would not see flash rates higher than the predetermined synchronized rate, which is preferably less than five flashes per second. The sync control circuit does not interfere with the supervision functions of the alarm system, and when an alarm condition is present it supplies power to the strobe circuits which it then interrupts once every flash cycle to cause a sync trigger circuit in each strobe to fire its flashtube, and to reset the internal timer of each strobe to ready it for arrival of the next sync signal. Each strobe circuit in the loop includes a resettable timer for recycling its own flash unit in a non-synchronous fail-safe mode in case the sync signal should fail to appear within a finite period following the last previous flash. That is, normally the strobes are all fired at the same time in response to sync signals applied to their sync trigger circuits, but in the event the sync signal is lacking the strobes will continue to flash, each at a rate determined by its internal timer.

摘要： A system for stripping an optical fiber includes a source air, and means for generating very short bursts of air. A heater heats the bursts of air to a temperature sufficient to remove the outer coating from an optical fiber, while maintaining the air isolated from the heat source. The heater includes a heater core that includes a heat generating element such as a conductive filament, and a heat chamber enclosed within the heater core. A spiral-shaped air conduit surrounds the outer surface of the heater core, and communicates with the heat chamber. Upon injection of air into the conduit, heat is transferred to the air from the heat generating element while the air flows through the air conduit and into and out of the chamber. A single burst of heated air removes the outer coating of an optical fiber, within less than one second.

摘要： A combination meter for a vehicle has a speedometer, a tachometer, a gauge and a warning light disposed in a casing. A holding panel having an annular wall and a rear wall is attached to the casing so that the speedometer, the tachometer, the gauge and the warning light are exposed through openings formed in the rear wall. The speedometer analog-displays a speed of the vehicle using a dial and a pointer and digital-displays a speed of the vehicle using an EL panel disposed at a front side of the dial and attached to the holding panel. An EL drive circuit for driving the EL panel is mounted on an outer surface of the annular wall of the holding panel. As a result, the EL panel and the EL drive circuit are readily attached to the casing simultaneously when the holding panel is attached to the casing, thereby improving an efficiency in attachment and replacement of the EL panel and the EL drive circuit.
