摘要: Model elements of an executable model, representing a physical system, are partitioned into one or more linear portions and one or more nonlinear portions. Simulating behavior of the physical system, by executing the model, includes, for each of multiple simulation time intervals, for a first nonlinear portion, computing a correlation matrix characterizing noise associated with one or more ports of the model. A scattering matrix corresponds to a portion of the physical system represented by the first nonlinear portion without accounting for any noise within the portion of the physical system. The correlation matrix is derived from the scattering matrix based on noise within the portion of the physical system. Noise sources representing noise within the portion of the physical system are identified based on the correlation matrix. At least one characteristic of noise associated with each noise source is computed, and noise characteristics are output at selected ports.

摘要: A liquid flow instructional system for presenting a proportions problem and for allowing the proportions problem to be solved comprises an input container and a plurality of output containers selectively and fluidly coupled to the input container. The system has an adjustable valve having a plurality of configurable regions. Each of the plurality of configurable regions corresponds to one of the plurality of output containers. An activable switch is provided for initiating flow of liquid from the input container to the plurality of output containers in accordance with a user configuration of the plurality of configurable regions. The proportions problem is solvable by filling each of the plurality of output containers to capacity without spillage. The correspondence between the plurality of configurable regions and the plurality of output containers is indicated by a visible indicator.

摘要: This is a kit for demonstrating Archimedes' principle and comprises a tub having an overflow spout, such that when a fluid level reaches the overflow spout, all additional fluid added to the tub will flow out of the overflow spout; and a stable boat sized to float in the tub without touching the sides of the tub. The kit may further comprise a balance beam which can balance on an edge of the tub, wherein one end of the balance beam has an attachment mechanism for attaching a counter weight, and the other end has an attachment mechanism for attaching a sample weight such that when the sample weight attached to this end, and the balance beam is balancing on the too edge of the tub, the sample weight will be submerged in the fluid in the tub. There is also provided a method for using this kit to demonstrate Archimedes' principle both for the buoyancy of a floating body, and the buoyancy for objects that do not float.

摘要: A system and method for generating tornadoes and other vortex phenomen in an open air, free space enviroment is disclosed. The system includes a flat surface or deck suspended above the ground, a circular hole in the center of the deck, a means for creating an updraft through the hole in the deck and fans or other air moving means for creating a swirling air flow. Preferably, the fans for swirling the air are angled approximately 45 degrees relative to the vertical axis of the updraft flow through the center hole. For swirling the air at higher elevations, as well as at ground level, a multi level fan arrangement having the layers of fans spaced relative to the deck is used. Alternatively, a single level of fans are used in conjunction with louvers or vanes for deflecting the blown air into a fan shape. In another embodiment of the present invention, tangential flow is established by using a multiplicity of tubes for returning air flow from a plenum above an updraft fan. Higher elevation air swirling is accomplished by providing vents in the return columns along the entire length. The vents can be holes in the columns or arrangements of adjustable or fixed vanes. Controls, including valves and shutters, are positioned in the return tubes for adjusting air flow patterns. The present system and method does not require containing chambers to remove external perturbations and to constrain air flow, actively, as opposed to passively, creates the swirling tangential flow, can be operated or performed indoors or outdoors and works with an asymmetric air flow.

摘要: A device for exploring the transferring of motion from one body to another body which utilizes a motion transfer surface is presented. The device is a hollow structure for receiving an object which has a motion transfer surface on its exterior. The hollow structure may be a tube or a polygon, such as for example a pyramid. The hollow structure can be opened and closed so that the object can be secured therein. Preferably, the object is spherical. Further, the object may have a gyroscope seated within its interior. The gyroscope may be activated by waves having a frequency, such as for example sound waves or electronic waves. Further objects, each having a motion transfer surface may also be seated within the hollow structure. Preferably where two or more objects are present, each object has a motion transfer surface and is in frictional contact with another object. Additionally, a toothed ribbon suitable for use as a motion transfer surface is described.
