An apparatus for generating a character pattern includes a first memory for storing reference character font data as a coordinate point array, a second memory for storing parameter data in correspondence with at least character size data, and a generator for generating size data of a target character on the basis of the parameter data. Font data corresponding to an input character code is read out from the first memory and is developed into pattern data of a size corresponding to character size data converted by the generator. A method of generating a character pattern for the above apparatus is also disclosed.

Described are methods and apparatuses for selecting Hangul components to form Korean characters on a screen located on electronic devices. All Hangul components are divided into three groups; namely, an initial consonant group, a medial vowel group, and a final consonant group. Any Hangul components can be found in these three groups. These three group Hangul components are alternatively displayed on a component display region (1006) located on the screen. At the beginning of inputting a Korean character, the first display region displays the initial consonant group in the component display region (1006). To form a Korean character, a user selects an initial consonant from the initial consonant group. Upon the selection of the initial consonant, the component display region (1006) displays the medial vowel group. The user then selects a medial vowel from the medial vowel group. Upon the selection of the medial vowel, the component display region (1006) displays the final consonant group. If necessary, the user selects a final consonant. The selected Hangul components are displayed in a character display region (1004) located on the screen to form a Korean character.

A method for processing input text in a graphics system running on a computer system and displaying typographic glyphs on a display device of the computer system includes mapping the input text into glyph codes, forming an initial glyph record array, the initial glyph record array comprising a plurality of glyph records for the glyph codes, processing a layout of the glyph codes to produce an updated glyph record array, rendering the updated glyph record array to produce a final glyph record array, and rendering a display of the typographic glyph output from the final glyph record array.

A system and method for rendering fonts into a memory is disclosed. The system and method comprises a data structure located within the memory. The data structure includes at least one font array. The method and system includes a graphics controller for accessing at least one font array in the memory and for rendering characters of at least one font array into the appropriate locations in the memory to be scanned onto a monitor. Accordingly, a system and method in accordance with the present invention provides for a plurality of font arrays to be provided within a memory of a computer system. The memory could be the frame buffer, system memory or any other memory within the computer system. The graphics controller includes a mechanism which allows for a font array to be accessed by the graphics controller. The graphics controller also includes a mechanism for allowing each font character to be rendered into the memory. In so doing, the number of transfers from the CPU is significantly reduced.

The displaying system includes a drawing control program for controlling the drawing process of a character, a contour changing program for changing the contour of a stroke along a contour changing direction, and a graph integration program for integrating and outputting the changed contours of all strokes of a character onto a screen. The displaying system further includes a stroke table for storing a stroke ID and corresponding stroke drawing program of each stroke, and a character description file for storing various stroke parameters of each character. The character description file includes an index file and a stroke description table of each character. The index table contains a WID of each character and the addresses of the correspondent stroke description tables. The stroke description table is used for recording the stroke data of all strokes, such as the stroke ID, key points, and widths. The character description file further includes a contour change description file for recording various changing rules and parameters based on which of the contours of a stroke is changed.

This border is generated on-line in accordance with the invention in that for each instantaneous raster line preceding and succeeding raster lines are read and column-wise combined in conformity with the desired border, said combined information being step-wise delayed by a number of raster points. The delayed signals are combined in conformity with the side selected for the border and with the border width, and produce the border signal after suppression at the areas where character information is to be displayed. As a result, aribtrary character shapes can be provided with a selectable border, it only being necessary to store these character shapes without border. Also described is a simple device for carrying out such a method.

Data for a portion of the input/output signal, corresponding to the portion of the waveform selected for recapture, is recaptured. The recapturing of data is performed using the second data capturing mechanism. The waveform for the input/output signal is redisplayed. The data recaptured using the second data capturing mechanism is used for displaying the portion of the waveform selected for recapture. The data captured in accordance with the first data capturing mechanism is used for displaying remaining portions of the waveform not selected for recapture.
