Therefore, its overall height can be made smaller than a disk drive mechanism, which is formed by assembling separately produced parts such as a rotor, a table and a centering part. And, it can be assembled with high accuracy. Besides, by additionally integrating a motor shaft with the rotor, the table and the centering part, a disk drive mechanism can be provided with less unevenness of assembling accuracy, such as unevenness of a press-fitting length of the motor shaft into a shaft hole of the disk-chucking section.

An enclosure case has a 3.5 inch form factor, and a magnetic disk has an outer diameter of, for example, 84 mm. A center of the magnetic disk is shifted from a center of the enclosure case in the width direction. Owing to this, by designing a larger voice coil, it is possible to increase the driving speed of the actuator.

摘要： A recording medium driving apparatus having a disk-shaped first medium, and a second medium formed of a disk housed in a cartridge case, the first and second media being retained at two vertically shifted positions in a frame member, and information being recorded and/or reproduced on and/or from the first and second media by using the same optical pickup. The recording medium driving apparatus includes a driving unit which can be vertically and horizontally moved with respect to the frame member and on which at least the optical pickup and a transporting mechanism for transporting the optical pickup are mounted. The driving unit vertically and horizontally moves in the frame member thereby to selectively oppose the optical pickup to either of the first and second media retained in the two different positions. This arrangement makes it possible to select either of two media simultaneously loaded on the apparatus to record and/or reproduce information to/from the selected medium, thus obviating the necessity for replacing a medium with a target medium, and providing significantly improved convenience.

摘要： A miniaturized optical disc memory is receivable in a slot, of about 17 mm height, normally accommodating a floppy disc drive. A base includes a base plate with integral, peripheral sidewalls and an internal lateral partition wall which define a cartridge receiving slot on the upper surface of the base plate. First and second support plates extend from the partition wall to the rear peripheral sidewall of the base and define respective, first and second upper mounting surfaces and lower first and second cavities respectively receiving an ejection motor and a fixed optical system, individual optical components being mounted and aligned on integral, precision machined blocks in the second cavity for transmitting a laser beam and receiving a reflected beam along a central, longitudinal optical axis beneath the base plate. A first base plate aperture accommodates a lens carriage driven in reciprocating motion along the axis for receiving and redirecting the laser beam vertically for scanning an optical disc and receiving a reflected beam and redirecting same to the fixed optical system. The movable optical system is locked in a rest position and is released by insertion of a cartridge to permit scanning movement thereof. A disc drive unit is mounted beneath the base plate for reciprocating vertical movement through a second aperture therein to a raised position for engaging and driving, in rotation, an optical disc of a cartridge inserted into the apparatus and to a lowered position for releasing the cartridge and permitting ejection thereof.

The unlock mechanism unlocks the lid by the operating member of the unlock mechanism being moved along the one lateral surface of the main body portion so that the operating member is partially immersed in the recess.

An interface cable connector is disposed on the side opposite to the spindle motor, and the printed circuit board is sized so as not to contact with the spindle motor in the height direction. This allows the degree of freedom of the arrangement of the spindle motor to increase. Further, the distance between the interface cable connector and the preamplifier connector on the printed circuit board is short. Thus, the size of the printed circuit board can be made as small as possible.
