A flex circuit bracket for use in a data storage device housing and a method of fabrication therefor. The flex circuit bracket supports a flex circuit assembly and establishes a diffusion path between the housing interior and an external environment. A rigid plate has a diffusion path and opposing exterior and interior surfaces. A laminated flex circuit embeds a number of conductive traces and includes a web portion and an extended portion. The web portion is affixed to the exterior surface of the plate to form the diffusion path. An additional plate can be provided so that the web portion is affixed to the exterior surfaces of both plates and folded to establish the diffusion path. A connector is preferably affixed to the web portion, and the bracket is mounted to the housing so that the connector extends through a bulkhead aperture and mates with a printed circuit board.

A disc drive system having a rotating disc storage device and a base housing with a sealed internal heat transport structure containing a working fluid. The rotating disc storage device is disposed on the base housing and has at least one heat-generating component in a heat exchange relationship with the base housing. The heat transport structure is formed as a cavity or at least one fluid passage arranged radially, in parallel, as a matrix, or a serpentine channel. Absorbed heat vaporizes the working fluid. The vapor transports the heat from a heat transport structure evaporator section near a relatively hot location of the base housing, to a heat transport structure condenser section near a relatively cooler location of the base housing, where the vapor condenses to liquid and releases the heat. The liquid working fluid is drawn by capillary action from the condenser section back to the evaporator section, aided by a wicking structure. The heat transport structure is formed in the base housing by drilling, casting, machining or embedding heat pipes.

A disk drive includes a spindle motor assembly mounted on an enclosure and at least two disks. The disks are mounted on a hub of the spindle motor assembly. Each of the disks have a magnetic medium deposited between an inner circumference and an outer circumference. The disks define a volume therebetween wherein airflow is generated when the disks rotate. The disk drive also includes an airflow spoiler positioned between the disks. The airflow spoiler has a spoiler mounting portion and a non-data bearing extending portion. The spoiler mounting portion is configured to be mounted on the hub of the spindle motor assembly. The non-data bearing extending portion is connected to the spoiler mounting portion and extends outwardly therefrom into the volume defined between the disks. The non-data bearing extending portion extends at least partially over the magnetic medium.

The present invention provides an improved magnetic data storage and retrieval system, which can absorb external shock and is easily attached to a host system. By setting bumpers in the four corners of a magnetic data storage and retrieval system, external shock can be absorbed to prevent a magnetic disk from being displaced from the proper alignment with its spindle motor. With this arrangement, in the two corners on the end portion side of a guide groove formed in the base, pedestal surfaces are formed in one side of the guide groove, and plate-like bumpers and are set on the pedestals. Further, in the remaining two corners, insertion-type bumpers may be set and a label covering part of them may be affixed.
