    Abstract: To eliminate the disadvantages in a discharge lamp having an auxiliary light source used to produce light with a short wavelength, to promote ionization of the discharge medium and to reduce the absolute value of the high voltage which is to be applied during starting, the discharge lamp of the invention includes a main discharge vessel which is filled with a discharge medium for the main discharge via a pair of opposed main discharge electrodes, and has a first electrode sealing part and a second electrode sealing part for connecting the pair of main discharge electrodes. The advantage of the invention is in a starting electrode arranged such that it does not come into contact with the main discharge space, and an auxiliary light source which includes an auxiliary discharge vessel located adjacent on the side of one of the electrode sealing parts and which is not made integral with the electrode sealing parts. The auxiliary light source is filled with a discharge medium, and has a first outer electrode on the outside of the auxiliary discharge vessel.

    Abstract: In an anode-side assembling process, a first end of a glass tube is fused to a rearward end of an electrode bar secured to an anode-side lead to produce a primary sealed product. In a cathode-side assembling process, a ring-shaped cathode is secured by caulking to a forward end portion of an electrode bar secured to a forward end of a cathode-side lead to produce a cathode member. In an assembling process, a second end of the glass tube of the primary sealed product is fused to a rearward end of the electrode bar secured to the cathode-side lead of the cathode member to produce a xenon discharge tube. A trigger electrode, which is composed of a transparent conductive film, is formed on a surface of the glass tube so that the light-transmissive sealed tube-coating ratio specified by the transparent conductive film is within a range of 5 to 30%.

    Abstract: The high-pressure discharge lamp comprises a discharge vessel provided with a first and a second lamp electrode, an outer envelope which surrounds the discharge vessel with space and which is provided with a lamp cap. A tube-like UV enhancer having a longitudinal axis is provided in the space having a ceramic wall and provided with an internal enhancer electrode connected to the first lamp electrode and by way of a capacitive coupling connected to the second lamp electrode, and which enhancer electrode has an end inside the enhancer. The capacitive coupling is formed by a metal curl positioned around the UV enhancer in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the UV enhancer and close to the end of the enhancer electrode. The lamp shows on ignition with a relative small ignition voltage only a very small ignition delay.
