摘要:
An antenna element (10) has two dielectric layers (12, 13), which separate three ground planes (17, 18, 21, 22, 23). The three ground planes have respective slots (26, 27, 28), which collectively define a slotline communicating at an inner end with a balun hole (57) that extends through all of the ground planes and dielectric layers. Two capacitive switches (121) are supported within the balun hole, and each have terminals respectively coupled to the same ground plane on opposite sides of the balun hole. The capacitive switches are independently and selectively operated to dynamically vary the impedance characteristic of the overall balun structure that includes the balun hole and two switch assemblies, and which gives the antenna element good electrical performance over a wide bandwidth. The antenna element includes a stripline (36), and a stripline to a slotline transition exists at the end of the slotline adjacent the balun hole.

An antenna arrangement comprises a patch conductor (102) supported substantially parallel to a ground plane (104). The patch conductor includes first (106) and second (108) connection points, for connection to radio circuitry, and further incorporates a slot (202) between the first and second points. The antenna can be operated in a plurality of modes by variations in the impedances connected to the first and second points. For example, if signals are fed to the first point (106) then a high frequency antenna is obtained by connecting the second point (108) to ground and a low frequency antenna by leaving the second point (108) open circuit. A wide range of embodiments having alternative connection arrangements are possible.

A radio frequency connector for coupling radio frequency energy into or out of an antenna apparatus includes a ground portion that is both capacitively and conductively coupled to a ground structure within the antenna apparatus. The connector is designed so that radio frequency (RF) signals within the operative frequency range of the antenna apparatus flow predominantly through the capacitive ground connection of the connector, rather than through the conductive ground connection of the connector. Direct current signals and other low frequency signals within the antenna apparatus, on the other hand, have a direct path to ground through the conductive ground connection. Because the RF signals flow predominantly through the capacitive ground connection, the likelihood that passive inter-modulation (PIM) products will be generated within the metal-to-metal junctions of the conductive ground connection is significantly reduced.

A broadband transmit/recieve antenna apparatus which operates at high frequencies and provides for two separate wideband tapered notch regions formed on one coplanar substrate. The tapered notch regions function as radiators for the transmission and reception of electromagnetic signals. The simple and compact design for the broadband antenna permits the transmission and reception of high frequency omnidirectional or directional radiation patterns. The broadband antenna interfaces with an an integrated circuit such as an ASIC which provides a series of pulsed signals and is resident on the antenna. The design of the broadband antenna provides for an optional stop notch to separate the transmitting portion of the antenna from the receiving portion of the antenna. Additionally, the antenna provides for impedance matching by locating transmission lines at an appropriate location with respect to the tapered notch radiators.
