摘要:
A system for case shifting the binary coded representations of the alphanumeric and figure characters of the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) comprising three gates on each of the fifth and sixth code levels with one of the three gates of each such level energized to pass the normal code generated by an ASCII code generator in the absence of a shift command. The other two AND-gates of each of the fifth and sixth levels are energized upon the occurrence of a normal shift command. One of these other two AND-gates in each level passes a normal fifth or sixth level code signal, and the other of these two AND-gates passes an inverted fifth or sixth level signal. In the presence of a shift command in combination with a ''''1'''' state signal in the seventh level, the inverted sixth-level AND-gate and the normal fifth-level AND-gate are energized. However, a ''''0'''' state signal in the seventh level causes the normal sixthlevel AND-gate and the inverted fifth-level AND-gate to be energized. An additional AND-gate monitors the sixth and seventh levels and an auxiliary shift contact. Upon concurrence of ''''1'''' state signals in both the sixth and seventh levels and the closure of the auxiliary shift contact, the additional AND-gate delivers a shift signal to the normal shift apparatus of the circuit in order to case shift only the alphabetic characters.

A primary circuit of a printed circuit plate is inductively coupled with a secondary circuit of a printed circuit plate when a key-controlled core pin connects a coupling loop of the primary circuit with a coupling loop of the secondary circuit. The coupling loops of the secondary circuit are arranged in accordance with a binary code so that pulses at the output terminals of the secondary circuit represent in coded form the information introduced into the primary circuit by operation of selected keys associated with alphanumerical information.

A printed circuit keyboard in which a printed circuit card carries character encoding. Interposers are constructed with projecting fingers made of conductive polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material. Actuation of a key initiates a mechanical operation which moves the fingers against copper areas of a circuit card. The contact between the interposer fingers and the circuit card completes a current to a semiconductor sensing circuit. The motion of the interposer fingers against the circuit card plus the finger configuration, causes a wiping action which cleans the contact surface. Since the fingers are made of semi-hard PVC material, wear is kept to a minimum while at the same time a positive contact is maintained by the spring pressure of the material against the circuit card. Shifting between upper and lower case is accomplished by physically shifting the circuit card so that a new and differently encoded path is completed by the interposer.

The specification and claims disclose a keyboard for encoding information in a binary form in which a planar array of ferromagnetic cores are normally inhibited from switching by permanent magnets. One of the magnets is raised each time a key is struck and the cores adjacent this magnet are thereby uninhibited and produce an output indicative of the struck key.
