A track maintenance machine includes a machine frame being movable on a track, a plurality of working units, and a combustion engine to be connected by a clutch to a transfer case. Hydraulic pumps for supplying a plurality of hydraulic drives of a hydraulic system are connected to the transfer case. An electric motor is provided as an alternative drive of the transfer case for permanent energy supply of the working units and drives. The electric motor is coupled to an intermediate circuit to be supplied with electric energy by a vertically adjustable pantograph to be applied to a catenary of the track. A generator or an electric energy storage device is provided for alternative energy supply of the intermediate circuit. A method for operation of an energy supply system is also provided.

A propulsion control system is provided for controlling a hydraulic drive system of a railway maintenance vehicle. An axle monitoring module receives and monitors a first signal from a first rotation sensor, and a second signal from a second rotation sensor, the first and second signals associated with first and second axles of the vehicle, respectively. A speed comparison module calculates a delta value representing a difference between the first and second signals, and generates a speed control signal based on the difference. A speed control module receives the speed control signal, and generates a power signal for controlling an amount of power applied to at least one of the first and second axles based on the speed control signal. An actuation control module receives the power signal, and performs a power allocation function for controlling a speed or power of the hydraulic drive system.

A motorized track car with a wheeled lower portion for rolling along a railroad track, and a platform carried by the wheeled lower portion. The platform has seating accommodation for one or more persons with the propulsion means for the vehicle disposed below the platform. The propulsion means consists of an internal combustion engine drivingly connected to hydraulic pump means providing fluid pressure for hydraulic motors drivingly associated with wheels of the car. There is control valve means operable by a person seated on the platform to control flow of hydraulic fluid for the pump and motor to vary the speed of travel of the vehicle from zero to maximum in each of forward and backward directions of travel. There is brake means operatively associated with at least one wheel of the track car and operable from the platform and, preferably, by a single lever control which also operates the control valve means. The arrangement of the propulsion means and seating accommodation is such as to provide a compact vehicle with maximum accommodation for a pay load and a vehicle weight such that it can be manually removed from and placed on the track by no more than two persons.
