摘要: A trimaran which includes a self-righting structure positioned near the stern that substantially raises the center of buoyancy. The trimarans two peripheral hulls are shorter than the main hull and positioned near the one end to create an unstable inverted environment wherein when inverted the vessel rests primarily on the self-righting structure and an end of the main hull, substantially raising the center of gravity and creating an unstable configuration. This causes a pitch or roll about the vessel's longitudinal axis, which continues until the vessel has returned to its more stable upright position resting on three hulls.

摘要: In a submarine countermeasure vehicle and launch assembly the vehicle includes a forward end portion, an aft end portion provided with a propeller and fins, a hull portion extending between the forward and aft portions, the hull portion being circular in cross-section, and a thrust ring mounted on the fins and around the propeller, the thrust ring forming a convex configuration. The launch assembly includes a launch tube for retaining and launching the vehicle, a ram plate moveable in the launch tube to push the vehicle out an end of the launch tube, the ram plate having an engagement surface for contact with the thrust ring, the engagement surface being at least in part of a concave configuration. In a launch operation, the concave surface of the ram plate engages the convex configuration of the thrust ring.

摘要: A load bearing support structure in the form of a traffic-bearing highway bridge including at least one modular structural section. The at least one modular structural section includes at least one beam, the beam comprising a pair of lateral flanges and a medial web between and extending below the flanges. The beam preferably has a flat floor. A load bearing deck is positioned above and supported by the flanges of the at least one beam. The beam and load bearing deck are preferably formed of a polymer matrix composite material. The beam is positioned on and supported by one of a plurality of support members. The beam has a contoured shape configured to be matably supported by a support member having a reciprocally configured contoured shaped. Alternatively, a flat or L-shape support member can be utilized. Further alternatively, the load bearing deck comprising at least one sandwich panel is suitable for applications such as barge decks, hatchcovers, and other load bearing wall applications. Methods of constructing a support structure utilizing the modular structural section and support members are also provided.

摘要: A light weight unsinkable hull is towed behind a power boat. The hull is made of aluminum or glass fibre and contains floatation compartments filled with styrofoam. Side fin assemblies give stability and the keel can also be moulded on the underside. A steering wheel and rudder assembly gives greater flexibility to directional changes.

摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for protecting lateral sides of waterborne vessels against wave damage. In particular, the present invention is directed to vessels generating lift through aerodynamic interactions and which vessels may employ a plurality of depending lateral sides. Each of the lateral side includes a deformable member disposed at its lower extremity. The deformable member includes three selectively pressurized deformable compartments positioned adjacent one another and generally longitudinally oriented with respect to a lateral side. The force of lateral wave action, striking the deformable member, is absorbed by the deformable member without transmitting the full effect of the force to the respective lateral sides. Pressure sensors are associated with each of the compartments and provide an indication of the magnitude of the striking wave force, which magnitude is a factor in establishing the maximum safe speed of the vessel.
