This invention is directed to a firearm safety device that has a chamber block for being received in a chamber of a firearm. An internal area is defined in the chamber block and can receive a bullet so that the bullet biases the outer walls outward. A visual indicator is attached to a distal end of the chamber block and is received in the bore of the barrel and extending outward past the muzzle providing a visual indication that the firearm is in a safe condition. In one embodiment, the chamber block can be inserted into the muzzle and the visual indicator extends through the barrel and chamber and out of the ejection port of magazine well. The visual indicator can be modifiable in length to accommodate various lengths of barrels and can be flexible.

This invention defines a system and method for manufacturing three-dimensional articles from a design created on a CAD item. The article is made using particle deposition of a fluent material to a build-up on a servo assembly base. The fluent material is deposited in the form of droplets from a dispensing head of a head assembly by moving the assembly up and down in a reciprocating motion according to the three-dimensional design coordinator. A droplet of fluent material forms as the dispensing head moves downward and makes contact with the article being formed, as the head reaches its lowest position of travel. The surface tension and capillarity of the fluent material is used to form the mass and shape of the droplet at the top surface of the article as the dispensing is moved upwards. The size and shape of each droplet may also be controlled by the type of fluent material used as well as its temperature and pressure and the size of the dispensing head orifice.

A fluent material (54) is dispensed or extruded from head (A) and as it is dispensed, the fluent material is subjected to a treatment by treatment sources (D) which cause the fluent material to transform into a fixed solidified state in the form of a three-dimensional object. Fluent material (54) may be a polymeric material which is solidified by an energy beam of ultraviolet light (56) upon dispensing. A shield (E) is provided to shield the dispensing head (A) and strand of material (54) so that the material is treated at the proper time and location to cause it to solidify properly to form the three-dimensional object. In accordance with the method, indexing takes place in desired steps so a dimensionally accurate object is formed.

The plastic mold, used in lieu of a conventional metal mold, is constructed from a fiber (52) reinforced thermoset plastic resin (50) having a heat distortion point above the melt point of the thermoplastic polymeric material from which an article is molded. Metal (64, 70, 74) or other dissimilar material may be used to provide different coefficients of heat transfer at preselected portions of mold (A, B). The entire mold may include a thermal coefficient modifier to increase the heat transfer rate of the mold uniformly over the entire mold in addition to the preselected portions.

A well-controlled, even distribution of plastic material in the mold occurs by this combination of motions. A desired pattern of heat distribution is applied along the length of mold (12) by a series of hot air openings (50a-50d) and a like number of openings on an opposing side of a hot air plenum (49).

A computer automated manufacturing process and system (CAMPS) is disclosed which includes a computer system (12) which consists of a computer aided design computer (14) and a machine controller (16) which receives a file of coordinate information (18). An article (10) is designed by means of the computer aided design subsystem (14) and a data file of three-dimensional coordinate information is compiled. The coordinate information is input to the machine controller (16) which controls servos (20) and (22) in a polar coordinate system. The servos (20) and (22) further control the position of a working head (24) and working head (26) so that mass particles are injected to arrive at predetermined coordinate points in the coordinate system to form an article (34). An origination seed (32) is fixed at an origin of the coordinate system and the article (34) is built up around the origination seed (32). Other coordinate systems and apparatus for locating the mass particles at the coordinates of a three-dimensional article are disclosed so that the article may be built up in a number of coordinate systems, and controlled environments.
