The present invention relates to a metal alloy, characterized in that it comprises, in percent by weight on the total weight of the alloy, 1-4% of niobium (Nb), 0-0.5% of hafnium (Hf), 27-29% of chromium, 1-5% of nickel (Ni), 0.3-0.45% of carbon (C), 0-2% of tantalum (Ta), 0-2% of titanium, 1-3% of iron, less than 0.5% of manganese (Mn), less than 0.3% of silicon (Si), less than 0.2% of zirconium (Zr), the remainder being cobalt (Co) and unavoidable impurities. This metal alloy has superior mechanical strength characteristics at high temperature which make it suitable for the manufacture of a manufactured article, in particular a spinner, for the production of mineral fibers, such as glass fiber, rock fiber and the like.

A mineral fiber forming device including: a centrifuge configured to rotate about a rotation axis, the centrifuge including an annular wall pierced by a plurality of orifices, the axis of symmetry of the annular wall being the rotation axis; a first annular inductor configured to heat a top part of the annular wall; a second annular inductor configured to heat a bottom part of the annular wall. The device makes it possible to increase its energy efficiency and very greatly reduce, even cancel altogether, its carbon dioxide emission level.

The invention relates to a fiberglass material manufacture method and facility, were in molten glass is converted into fiberglass material via the steps of spinning, drawing, sizing, and collecting, followed by a step of producing a resulting fiberglass material that is then subjected to thermal desizing. The fumes from the melting furnace are used to preheat a combustion reagent from the melting furnace in two steps: a first step in which air is heated via heat exchange with the fumes, and a second step in which the combustion reagent is preheated via heat exchange with the hot air, the air then being used in the step of desizing the fiberglass material.

Methods, systems and apparatus for producing continuous basalt fibers, microfibers, and microspheres from high temperature melts are disclosed. A cold crucible induction furnace is used to super heat crushed basalt rock to form a melt. The melt is cooled prior to forming a fiber. The fiber produced from the superheated melt possesses superior properties not found with conventional basalt fibers produced in gas furnaces. In some implementations, the superheated melt is spun into continuous basalt fibers. In some implementations, the superheated melt is blown into microfibers and microspheres.

A drying oven for crosslinking a continuous mat of mineral or plant fibers includes a plurality of heating boxes through which the mat of fibers successively passes. At least one of the boxes includes, between an external insulating jacket of the drying oven and a central compartment of the box, an in-built hot-gas heating and recirculation device that includes at least one radial turbine mounted horizontally, the axis of rotation of which is arranged vertically, the turbine drawing hot gas along the axis through a gas outlet orifice of the central compartment after it has passed through the mat, and discharging it radially toward a recirculation device that recirculates the hot gas leaving the radial turbine to a gas inlet orifice of the compartment, and at least one heating device for heating the gas circulating in the box.

A method of forming high strength glass fibers in a refractory-lined glass melter, products made there from and batch compositions suited for use in the method are disclosed. The glass composition for use in the method of the present invention is up to about 64-75 weight percent SiO2, 16-24 weight percent Al2O3, 8-12 weight percent MgO and 0.25-3 weight percent R2O, where R2O equals the sum of Li2O and Na2O, has a fiberizing temperature less than about 2650° F., and a ΔT of at least 80° F. By using oxide-based refractory-lined furnaces the cost of production of glass fibers is substantially reduced in comparison with the cost of fibers produced using a platinum-lined melting furnace. High strength composite articles including the high strength glass fibers are also disclosed.

Described herein are apparatuses and methods of creating fibers, such as microfibers and nanofibers, which include additives that modify one or more properties of the produced fibers. The methods discussed herein employ centrifugal forces to transform material into fibers. Apparatuses that may be used to create fibers are also described.
