摘要: A method for positioning a body that has a surface extending along a circular arc, includes: attaching the body to a machine part that is capable of swiveling; attaching a stationary, first distance gauge; attaching a stationary, second distance gauge; determining three first distance values and three second distance values at three defined angular positions of the machine part different from each other; calculating a first offset value, based on the three first distance values and the corresponding angular positions, and a second offset value, based on the three second distance values and the corresponding angular positions; shifting the body relative to the machine part, until the first offset value is determined by the first distance gauge and the second offset value is determined by the second distance gauge within permissible tolerances.

摘要: For alignment of rotational shafts, two devices for attachment to circular faces of two shaft segments. Each of the two devices has a laser photoelectric device for ascertaining a dimension of displacement of the two shafts from a desired axis of rotation relative to each other. Each of the two devices having a base surface with two linear contact edges designed to engage with a circumferential surface of a shaft and to ensure alignment between the device and an axis of rotation of the shaft to within a tolerance compatible with alignment tolerances of the shaft. Each of the two linear contact edges includes at least two terminal end regions and a center region together defining a line contact at linear intersection of two surfaces meeting at a non-zero angle linear contact edges designed to affix and release from the shaft surface, and to ensure parallel alignment between the device and an axis of rotation of the shaft to a precision allowing measurements to within tolerances required by machinery driven by the shaft. The base surface of at least one of the devices has been modified from its commercially-delivered condition to provide raised rails designed to improve tactile feedback of to a user of the alignment between the base and an axis of rotation of the shaft, and has affixed thereto two rails designed to improve tactile feedback of to a user of the alignment between the base and an axis of rotation of the shaft. Each base has a magnet and a switch to vary magnetic flux for affixation and release from the shaft surface. Each device has brackets designed to securely and reproducibly position laser photoelectric devices relative to the base and axis of rotation of the shaft. The attaching includes a human placing at least one of the devices slightly askew relative to the axis of rotation of the shaft, and the human gently twisting the device to allow the liner contact edges to seat on the circumferential surface of the shaft, to provide tactile feedback to the human to confirm parallel alignment between the at least one device's laser photoelectronic device and the axis of rotation of the shaft.

摘要: A fastener locating tool equipped with a sensor head having one or more probes and a method for operating such a tool for precisely locating a fastener that is hidden or buried under a thick coating applied on a surface of a structure. The fastener locating tool may be manually or automatically operated. The fastener locating tool includes a platform having a central opening, means for temporarily attaching the platform to a coated surface, and a sensor head that may be easily mechanically coupled to and then later decoupled from the platform. Optionally, the fastener locating tool also includes a multi-stage positioning system with X and Y stages which may be used to adjust the position of the sensor head. The sensor head includes at least one probe which generates electrical signals indicating the presence of a fastener beneath a coating when the probe is within a detection range.

摘要: Misalignment of intersecting devices on a diagnostic instrument may be detected and remediated using a system comprising components such as an accelerometer, a plurality of strain gauges and a device comprising a processor and a memory (e.g., a computer). In such a system, the accelerometer may be adapted to detect movement of the diagnostic instrument. The device comprising the processor and the memory may be configured to, for each of the structural elements of the diagnostic instrument, determine whether an alignment change has taken place in that structural element based on analyzing measurements made by the plurality of strain gauges. The device comprising the processor and the memory may also be configured to, for each structural element where an alignment change is determined to have taken place, trigger a remediation for each device from a set of devices impacted by the alignment change of that structural element.

摘要: A method for sensing misalignment of a rotating shaft includes rotating the shaft. A distance from a sensor on the shaft to a first rim of a first coupling mounted to an end of the shaft is sensed as the shaft rotates. A change in the distance from the first sensor to the first rim of the first coupling is determined based on the sensed distance. An angle of the first coupling based on the change in the distance from the first sensor to the first rim of the first coupling during one revolution of the shaft is determined based on the sensed change in the distance from the first sensor to the first rim. An angle of the shaft is determined based on the sensed distance from the first sensor to the first rim of the first coupling representing the sensed change in the distance from the first sensor to the first rim.
