摘要: Presented are metalworking systems for forming metallic workpieces, methods for making such workpieces and methods for operating such systems, and battery cell tabs bent by a multistage plunger press. A metalworking system includes a plunger fixture that mounts adjacent metallic workpieces, and a plunger head movably mounted to the plunger fixture to move between activated and deactivated positions. A first row of plunger fingers is mounted to the plunger head and moves in one direction to press against and bend one metallic workpiece a predefined bend angle. Likewise, a second row of plunger fingers is mounted to the plunger head and moves in an opposite direction to press against and bend another metallic workpiece another predefined bend angle. The plunger head then moves to the activated position, in tandem with the plunger fingers bending the metallic workpieces, to cause the plunger fingers to bend the workpieces additional respective bend angles.

摘要: An electrode assembly includes a stack and a second separator. The stack includes first and second electrodes and a first separator folded in a zigzag configuration and including spacer sections and respective side sections between the spacer sections. The first and the second electrodes are alternately disposed between first separator spacer sections The second separator extends along an upper surface, a lower surface, and at least one pair of opposing side surfaces of the stack. The side sections of the first separator define portions of the side surfaces of the stack on which the first electrode and the second electrode are not disposed. The second separator is bonded to at least one of the side sections.

摘要: An electrode assembly includes a plurality of electrodes arranged in a stack along a stacking axis, where each of the electrodes is separated from a successive one of the electrodes in the stack by a respective planar portion of an elongated separator sheet. The elongated separator sheet may be folded between each planar portion such that the elongated separator sheet follows a serpentine path traversing back and forth orthogonal to the stacking axis to extend between each successive one of the electrodes in the stack. First lateral ends of a plurality of electrodes may be offset by a first distance in the orthogonal dimension with respect to the first lateral end of either the first electrode in the stack or one of the two adjacent electrodes in the stack, where the first distance is no more than 10% of a lateral width of any select one of the electrodes.

摘要: Positive and negative electrode plates of a battery include positive electrode units aligned and connected to one another and negative electrode units aligned and connected to one another, respectively. The electrode plates are folded, in a zigzag pattern, alternately in opposite directions at fold portions each being a boundary between corresponding adjacent two positive electrode units and at fold portions each being a boundary between corresponding adjacent two negative electrode units. The electrode plates and a separator are arranged such that an active material layer on the positive electrode units faces an active material layer on the negative electrode units across the separator, and the fold portions face the fold portions across the separator. The length of each positive electrode unit is greater than the length of each negative electrode units in a direction in which the electrode units are aligned, respectively.
