Abstract:
The present bifurcated roller tool (10) includes a pair of rollers (14, 15) which rotate independently of the other. The rollers are rotatably engaged on a distal frame portion (26) which has a pair of roller engaging portions (30, 32). The roller engaging portions are separated from each other via a V-shaped medial frame section (40). The medial frame section defines a receiver which permits the reception of a paint tray divider. The paint tray divider separates two receptacle portions of a paint tray. A frame for the bifurcated roller (12) includes an intermediate frame portion (34) leading from a handle (28) to one of the roller engaging portions (30) of the distal frame portion (26). The other of the roller engaging portions (32) includes a free outer end and it is over this end that roller covers (60, 62) are slid off the roller mounts and other roller covers slide onto their respective roller mounts. The roller cover which engages the roller mount proximate to the intermediate frame portion (34) slides over the medial frame portion (40) and onto and off the other of the roller mount when it is to be replaced or cleaned. The intermediate frame portion (34) and roller engaging portions define sections of a rod such that the frame (12) for the bifurcated roller (10) is integral and one-piece.
Abstract:
A bifurcated paint roller (10) and painting method using such. The paint roller (10) is a hand tool having two roller portions (20), having a nap (160) for picking up and spreading paint. The roller portions are spaced transversely from each other and rotate independently of the other. A paint pan (50) includes two receptacle portions (54), each of which holds a paint having a different characteristic. A divider (56) separates the receptacle portions- The distal end of the hand tool includes an open-ended slot (22) for reception of the divider. Alternatively, the hand tool may include tubes (182) mounted thereon and feeding paint to the roller portions. A painting method includes the steps of applying a paint having a first characteristic to a surface, rolling the roller portions with paint having respective second and third characteristics across the surface, and pressing and removing a plastic sheeting (120) to the surface immediately after the painting steps.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to provide a coating device of the roller type which reduces a waste of coating material and distributes the coating material uniformly to the roller brush. The coating device includes a solid cylindrical body (11) being solid except an axial center hole (13), and radial holes (14) radially extended from a plurality of positions of the axial center hole (11), a roller brush (12) applied to the outer periphery of the solid cylindrical body (11), coating-material press feeding pipes (24) connected to both ends of the axial center hole (13) of the solid cylindrical body (11), and an arm part (31) for supporting the solid cylindrical body (11) at both ends of the solid cylindrical body (11). Those components are entirely supported by a turnable support mechanism (40) and a vertically movable support mechanism (50).
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for creating a faux finish on a surface where the apparatus has a dual roller handle (114), a pair of roller covers (120, 124) each mounted for independent rotation, and at least one raised foam pattern on each roller cover. In one embodiment, the raised foam pattern (122, 126) is a nonrepresentational design that is sized, shaped and positioned on each roller cover to create smoothly contoured edges and a non-uniform gap between adjacent edges of the raised foam pattern. When two paints having at least one different visually perceptible characteristic are respectively applied to the surface by the roller covers using the handle in an overlapping and arcing motion, a faux marble finish results from the effect of the edges of the raised foam pattern on the paint discharged to the surface by the raised foam pattern. In another embodiment, the raised foam pattern is a representative design that is used in the same manner to provide a faux texture finish.

A bifurcated paint roller and painting method using such. The paint roller is a hand tool having two roller portions, with each of the roller portions having a nap for picking up and spreading paint. The roller portions are spaced transversely from each other and rotate independently of each other. A paint pan is provided with the bifurcated paint roller and is itself bifurcated. The paint pan includes two receptacle portions, each of which holds a paint having a different characteristic. A divider separates the receptacle portions such that the paints having the different characteristics are prevented from mixing. The distal end of the hand tool includes an open-ended slot for reception of the divider such that each of the roller portions is dippable into their respective paints. Alternatively, the hand tool may include tubes mounted thereon and feeding paint to the roller portions. A painting method includes the steps of applying a paint having a first characteristic to a surface, rolling the roller portions with paint having respective second and third characteristics across the surface, and pressing and removing a plastic sheeting to the surface immediately after either or both of the painting steps. The hand tool and method provide a quick and easy method of achieving an effect identical to sponge or rag painting. Especially preferred for the first characteristic is a texture, and especially preferred for the second and third characteristics are second and third micaceous materials to achieve mixed pearlescent effects.
Abstract:
In a mounting arrangement for a surface-engaging element such as a paint roller (2), a mounting member (3) carries the roller (2) and is pivotally mounted by means of a pin (6) on an elongate shank or handle (1). A spring (8) is provided for urging the mounting member (3), and hence also the paint roller (2), into an orientation in which the roller axis defined by support pins (4) extends substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis of the shank or handle (1). The spring (8) is arranged to be axially operative in the longitudinal direction of the handle (1) between a fixed securing spigot or pin (9) on the handle (1), to which one end of the spring is connected, and a drive portion (7) of the mounting member (3), to which the other end of the spring (8) is connected.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing a paint roller having a roll body comprised of a synthetic foam with an inner recess for placing on a carrying strap. The invention is characterized in that the roll body is expanded in a form tool. To this end, the expansion pressure is set such that a closed compact covering of the synthetic material, preferably a polyester polyurethane foam, is formed on the outer surface of the roll body and/or on the wall of the inner recess. The coating is at least partially opened or removed in a successive method step.
