Abstract:
A method for tanning a hide wherein said method comprises treating a tannable hide with a tanning composition comprising from 25 to 75 % by weight (wt. %) of at least one chromium(lll) salt; from 5 to 70 % by weight (wt. %) of at least one zeolite having the general formula (1): Mx/n [(AIO 2 )x(SiO 2 )y] wH 2 O, wherein M is an alkali metal cation, a bivalent cation, a trivalent cation or a mixture thereof, n is the valence of the cation, w is the number of water molecules per unit cell, y is a number from 0.8 to 50 and the ratio y to x is ranging from 0.7 to 100, treated with at least one acid selected from the group consisting of a monocarboxylic acid and a polycarboxylic acid; and from 1 to 70 wt. % of at least one aluminium(lll) salt; wherein all wt. % are relative to the total weight of the composition (T).
Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for tanning skins and materials containing collagen comprising the following successive steps: (a) contacting said skins or said materials containing collagen, in a chamber, with a dense fluid under pressure containing at least a tanning agent insoluble or hardly soluble in said dense pressurised fluid, but soluble in water; (b) bringing said chamber to atmospheric pressure so as to eliminate said fluid in gas form; then following step b), directly introducing into the chamber at least a basification agent; then pressurising the chamber again with said fluid; and carrying out step (c) which consists in contacting said skins or said materials containing collagen with the dense pressurised fluid containing said basification agent; and finally in a step (d) bringing the chamber back to atmospheric pressure so as to eliminate said fluid in gas form.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a composition suitable for leather tanning comprising zeolite contacted with monocarboxylic acid and to a method for manufacturing said composition. The method comprises providing zeolite into a reactor and keeping said zeolite in motion while introducing concentrated monocarboxylic acid thereto provided that the mean temperature of the resulting composition is 50°C or below. Furthermore, the invention provides use of said composition for treating leather and the resulting product and uses thereof.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of a composition containing aluminosilicates in combination with neutralizing agents and materials to obtain tanning hides in chrome-free tanning and retanning, in which the zeolites are aluminosilicates, neutralizing agents are weak acids and tanning materials, preferably syntans, are determined by their ability to bind to a collagen fiber of a skin and determine a tanning effect, the zeolite being present in a percentage range varying from 5% to 66% of the weight of the composition, weak acids being present in a percentage range varying from 5% to 33.3% of the weight of the composition and the tanning materials being present in the composition in completion of the total weight of the composition, with a minimum proportion of 5%, wherein the composition is used with the components already mixed prior to use, so that, during use, they act on the hides concomitantly.
Abstract:
Coated Fibrous Substrates The present invention provides a method of improving the adhesion of coatings to fibrous base materials. The method comprises treating a fibrous base material with one or more salt(s) of receptor species to provide a pre-coated fibrous base material comprising specific inorganic receptor sites within the fibrous base material. The one or more salt(s) of receptor species is selected from the groups comprising: (a) aluminium salts; (b) titanium salts; (c) zirconium salts; (d) iron salts; (e) soluble alkali silicates; or a combination thereof. The method further comprises coating the treated fibrous base material with a coating formulation comprising one or more compound(s) containing epoxy and alkoxysilane groups. The coating formulation acts as an adhesion promoter and cross-linker.
Abstract:
A process of combination tannage is disclosed whereby Zirconium salt is complexed with THP salt to produce wet pink leather without using any conventional dye. The resulting leathers exhibit shrinkage temperature of more than 100°C properties and other comparable to those of conventionally processed leathers.
Abstract:
The invention relates to tanning agents for leather and concerns a zeolite composition suitable as a single tanning agent comprising zeolite, a first weak acid, a second weak acid and optionally a third weak acid. This zeolite composition enables an efficient and effective chrome-free tanning.
Abstract:
There is provided a process for tanning animal hide comprising treating an animal hide with at least one tanning agent and exposing the treated hide to a dose of ionising radiation of from 1 to 500 kJ/kg wherein the ionising radiation is in the form of a charged particle beam.
