Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of reactive colourless and metal-free protein cross-linking agents for the cross-linking (tanning) of protein-containing substrates, said agents are environmentally friendly and give an improved fixation yield, a long-term cross-linking (tanning) stability and good washing off properties. The present invention further relates to processes for the cross-linking (tanning) of protein-containing substrates thereby creating an environmentally friendly process which minimizes the use of chemicals and further improves the quality and efficiency of the tanning and dyeing process.
Abstract:
A method for tanning an animal substrate comprising the steps: i)agitating the animal substrate with a chromium-free tanning agent; and ii)agitating the animal substrate with a tanning agent having an oxazolidine group; wherein at least some of the agitation is performed in the presence of a solid particulate material having an average particle size of from 1 to 500mm.
Abstract:
Skins are tanned by (1) impregnating them with a THP salt at a pH below that required to cause substantial conversion of the salt to THP (e.g. below 4); (2) contacting the impregnated skins with a nitrogenous compound such as urea or melamine which is capable of copolymerising with THP; and (3) raising the pH sufficiently to effect substantial conversion of the THP salt to THP (e.g. 4.5 to 7).
Abstract:
Process for tanning leathers with triazine derivatives comprising at least the steps of transforming a raw animal skin into a de-calcined leather, placing the de- calcined leather in a container with water at room temperature, rotating said container, adding a triazine derivative, dissolved in water, in a concentration ranging between 5.5% and 22%, with respect to the pelt weight, or adding water soluble condensing agents, and draining and washing in water.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A process of combination tannage is disclosed whereby Zirconium salt is complexed with THP salt to produce wet pink leather without using any conventional dye. The resulting leathers exhibit shrinkage temperature of more than 100°C properties and other comparable to those of conventionally processed leathers.
Abstract:
The method for tanning of hides by means of tanning agents in a tanning bath is characterized by the fact that the bath besides the hides comprises a laccase derived from Myceliophthora , and as tanning agent an aromatic compound and possibly other compounds which are able to react with the hides and/or the aromatic compound, and that an oxidation agent is introduced into the equilibrated tanning bath. In this manner it is possible to increase the degree of fixation considerably in comparison to the prior art methods of this kind.
