Abstract: Provided herein is a system and method for mitigating premature light deactivation of light deactivated adhesive drapes. One aspect provides a system comprising a drape, a photosensitive adhesive layer, a release agent, and an optical fiber mesh layer configured as a light pipe, where the system is adapted to be coupled to a tissue site and released therefrom upon or after exposure to an external stimulus such as certain wavelengths of light. Another aspect includes a pipe light pipe, as an alternative to the optical fiber mesh layer. The systems may have a removable blocking layer to prevent the photosensitive adhesive from being exposed to deactivation wavelengths prematurely. Another aspect provides a method for application and removal of a drape using the light pipe to transport or route light to the drape to deactivate the photosensitive adhesive layer and promote easy, clean, and less painful removal of the drape.

Abstract: Provided herein is a system and method for trauma-free application and removal of light deactivated adhesive drapes. One aspect provides a system comprising a drape, at least one photosensitive adhesive portion having a release agent, and at least one non-adhesive portion, where the system is adapted to be coupled to a tissue site and released therefrom after exposure to an external stimulus, such as light. The system may have a removable blocking layer to reduce or prevent the photosensitive adhesive from being exposed to wavelengths of light that would cause premature deactivation. Another aspect provides a system comprising a drape, at least one first photosensitive adhesive portion and at least one second photosensitive adhesive portion, each having different deactivation times.

Abstract: Dressings for closing an opening through a surface of a tissue site are described. The dressing includes a cover adapted to form a sealed space over the opening and a bolster. The bolster is adapted to be positioned adjacent the opening and includes a first plurality of holes. The holes have an average width to length ratio causing the plurality of holes to collapse in a direction substantially perpendicular to the opening. Systems, apparatuses, kits and methods including and/or using the dressing for closing the opening are also described.

Abstract: A dressing for treating a tissue site, particularly a peritoneal or abdominal site, is disclosed. The dressing may comprise: a substrate; an adherent layer coupled to a surface of the substrate; and a fibrous layer comprising fibers coupled to a surface of the adherent layer opposite the substrate. Typically, the fibrous layer satisfies one or more of the following: at least 75% of the fibers are coupled approximately perpendicular to the surface of the substrate; at least 95% of the fibers in the fibrous layer have a length to diameter aspect ratio from about 10 to about 1000; and no more than 10% of the fibers are coupled approximately tangential to the surface of the substrate. Optionally, the fibrous layer may be formed by a flocking process. Methods of treating various tissue sites using the dressings and negative- pressure therapy are also disclosed.

Abstract: A dressing for treating a tissue site with negative pressure may comprise a tissue interface comprising a three-dimensional textile of polyester fibers and a polymer coating on the polyester fibers. In some examples, the three-dimensional textile may be a three-dimensional weave of polyester fibers, and the polymer coating may be hydrophobic. In more particular embodiments, the polymer coating may be silicone or polyethylene, for example. The dressing may additionally include a drape disposed over the tissue interface and a port fluidly coupled to the tissue interface through the drape. The tissue interface may be applied over a tissue site, and therapeutic levels of negative pressure may be applied to the tissue site through the tissue interface.
