Abstract:
Compositions are provided wherein a complex of an anthracycline antibiotic with a polyunsaturated fatty acid (with or without alpha -fetoprotein) is dissolved in a lipid emulsion. Dissolved uncomplexed alpha -fetoprotein can also be present. The compositions are useful in a method for the intravascular treatment of neoplastic tissue, especially alpha -fetoprotein producing hepatoma cells in humans, at high doses of the complex for relatively short periods of time.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to substantially purified agents normally expressed during mammalian pregnancy that may be used to control the proliferation of cells, and, in particular, provides for proliferative agents as well as antiproliferative agents. The antiproliferative agents may be used to limit undesirable proliferation of cells, for example, in the treatment of cancer. The proliferative agents may be utilized to increase cell proliferation and may be used, for example, in the treatment of infertility.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions are provided for maintaining pregnancy and preventing rejection of transplanted tissue. A polypeptide characterized as capable of isolation from conceptus tissue and capable of inhibiting mitogen induced lymphocyte blastogenesis is employed which is introduced into the uterus or systemically.
Abstract:
A DNA which codes for a protein capable of combining specifically with an enhancer of an α-fetoprotein gene to thereby promote transcription of the gene. This DNA is useful for a system of manifestation of a large quantity of a physiologically active protein in an animal cell when it is applied to a recombinant DNA.
Abstract:
New protein characterized particularly in that it is present in the serum of pregnant females and normally absent in males; in that it is present in the serum of individuals who develop an inflammatory reaction; in that it migrates in electrophoresis with alpha2-macroglobulines; in that it has a molecular mass of 800.000 9E 50.000 approximately measured by filtration on polyacrylamide gel; and in that its administration in vivo prolongs significantly the survival of allografts; antibodies directed against said protein; preparation thereof and application thereof particularly as medecine.
Abstract:
A biologically active secreted protein composed of a plurality of subunits is prepared by a recombinant methodology. Each subunit is synthesized by a cell having an autonomously replicating expression vector I.E. a plasmid or virus containing heterologous DNA encoding for the subunit. The preferred host is a eukaryotic cell. The secreted protein is a hormone such as hCG, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) or thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
