    Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) includes one or more sources of propulsion, a power source, and communication system. The UAV also includes a controller coupled to the communication system, the power source, and the one or more sources of propulsion. The controller includes logic that when executed by the controller causes the UAV to perform operations, including measuring a power source charge level of the UAV; sending a signal including the power source charge level of the UAV to an external device; receiving movement instructions from the external device; and engaging the one or more sources of propulsion to move the UAV from a first location on a storage rack to a second location within a storage facility.

    Abstract: A rotary encoder includes an electret unit, an electrostatic field sensor, and a controller. The electret unit generates an electrostatic field. The electrostatic field sensor is disposed proximate to the electret unit to sense a modulation of the electrostatic field that varies with rotation of one or more rotary components of the rotary encoder about a rotation axis of the rotary encoder. The controller is electrically coupled to the electrostatic field sensor to track activations of the electrostatic field sensor as the one or more rotary components rotate. The controller is configured to digitally encode a rotational position of the one or more rotary components based upon the activations.

    Abstract: An apparatus comprising a liquid crystal material and a controller is described herein. The liquid crystal material is disposed between first and second electrodes. Molecules of the liquid crystal material assume a first orientation during a first state of the liquid crystal material and a second orientation during a second state of the liquid crystal material. The first orientation is different from the second orientation. The controller is coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode to perform operations. The operations include applying a first periodic waveform to the first electrode and a second periodic waveform to the second electrode to generate a drive waveform applied across the liquid crystal material. The operations further include changing a duty cycle of the drive waveform over a first time period to transition the liquid crystal material between the first state and the second state.

    Abstract: A propulsion unit includes a motor rotor, propeller blades, and a pivot stop. The motor rotor spins about a central rotational axis. The propeller blades, including first and second propeller blades, each having a proximal base mounted to the motor rotor such that the propeller blades are rotatable about the central rotational axis. The second propeller blade is pivotally attached to the motor rotor to pivot about the central rotational axis independent of the motor rotor by a limited angle. The pivot stop mechanically limits an amount of pivoting of the second propeller blade relative to the first propeller blade.

    Abstract: An aerial vehicle includes an airframe; vertical propulsion units, and a controller. The vertical propulsion units are mounted to the airframe and include propellers oriented to provide vertical propulsion to the aerial vehicle. The vertical propulsion units are physically organized in quadrants on the airframe with each of the quadrants including two or more of the vertical propulsion units. The controller is coupled to the vertical propulsion units to control operation of the vertical propulsion units. At least two of the vertical propulsion units in each of the quadrants are adapted to counter-rotate from each other during flight of the aerial vehicle.

    Abstract: A system includes a display, and a database including surgical videos, images of organs in a human body obtained from a medical imaging device, and images of disease in a human body obtained from the medical imaging device. A controller including a processor is coupled to memory, the database, and the display, and the memory stores information that when executed by the processor causes the system to perform operations. For example, the processor may determine first organ information from the images of the organs, and first disease information from the images of the disease. The processor my calculate a similarity score between the first organ information and the first disease information and second disease information and second organ information indexed to the surgical videos. The processor selects one or more of the surgical videos based on the similarity score, and displays the surgical videos on the display.
