A preparation method of an electrode structure, according to one embodiment of the present invention, includes a step for providing one or more metal fibers forming a conductive network; a step for providing particle compositions including electrical active materials of a particle shape; a step for mixing the metal fibers and the particle compositions; and a step for compressing the mixed metal fibers and the particle compositions.
Abstract:
An electrolyte formulation for use in photoelectrochemical devices is disclosed including: a thickening agent; wherein the thickening agent is dissolved in the electrolyte. The thickening agent may be polymeric.
Abstract:
A binder comprising a polymeric binder comprising the products of a carbohydrate reactant and organic acid is disclosed. The binder is useful for consolidating loosely assembled matter, such as fibers. Fibrous products comprising fibers in contact with a carbohydrate reactant and an organic acid are also disclosed. The binder composition may be cured to yield a fibrous product comprising fibers bound by a cross-linked polymer. Further disclosed are methods for binding fibers with the carbohydrate based binder using an organic acid.
Abstract:
The invention provides fluoride ion host electrodes for use in electrochemical cells. These electrodes include carbon nanomaterials having a curved multilayered structure and a film or particles of a metal-based material. The metal-based material may react with fluorine and may be a transition metal such as silver. The invention also provides electrochemical cells in which the fluoride host electrode serves as at least one electrode of the cell.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to electrochemical cells, and more specifically, to additives for electrochemical cells which may enhance the performance of the cell. In some cases, the additive may advantageously reduce or prevent formation of impurities and/or depletion of active components of the cell during operation, to increase the efficiency and/or lifetime of the cell. The incorporation of certain additives within the electrolyte of the cell may improve the cycling lifetime and/or performance of the cell.

Abstract:
An ion transporting solvent maintains very low vapor pressure, contains flame retarding elements, and is nontoxic. The solvent in combination with common battery electrolyte salts can be used to replace the current carbonate electrolyte solution, creating a safer battery. It can also be used in combination with polymer gels or solid polymer electrolytes to produce polymer batteries with enhanced conductivity characteristics. The solvents may comprise a class of cyclic and acyclic low molecular weight phosphazenes compounds, comprising repeating phosphorus and nitrogen units forming a core backbone and ion-carrying pendent groups bound to the phosphorus. In preferred embodiments, the cyclic phosphazene comprises at least 3 phosphorus and nitrogen units, and the pendent groups are polyethers, polythioethers, polyether/polythioethers or any combination thereof, and/or other groups preferably comprising other atoms from Group 6B of the periodic table of elements.
Abstract:
The present invention is generally related to electrolytes containing anion receptor additives to enhance the power capability of lithium-ion batteries. The anion receptor of the present invention is a Lewis acid that can help to dissolve LiF in the passivation films of lithium-ion batteries. Accordingly, one aspect the invention provides electrolytes comprising a lithium salt; a polar aprotic solvent; and an anion receptor additive; and wherein the electrolyte solution is substantially non-aqueous. Further there are provided electrochemical devices employing the electrolyte and methods of making the electrolyte.
