    Abstract: A self-stabilizing pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet that utilizes a semi-ridge retaining strap, a ratcheting retaining buckle, and an elastic guide cord on the lower penetrating end of a wedge-shaped bladder. A rigid baseplate is supported by a waist belt having a width identical with the waist belt so that the baseplate provides a stable base for positioning the bladder over a selected area of the patient's abdomen. The air bladder is affixed to the underside of the baseplate, which is initially kept in a deflated condition collapsed against the baseplate, and includes an elastic cord, such as a shock cord, configured to bias the tip of the wedge or "V" shaped bladder in the middle of the baseplate. An air source connected to the air bladder causes inflation and penetration of the lower edge of the bladder into the patient's abdomen thereby causing aorta occlusion.

The expandable member is configured to be positioned over an ulnar region of the patient when the palmar surface of the hand is engaged with the flexible backing and the dorsal surface of the hand is engaged with the base, such that inflation of the expandable member may apply pressure to tissue near the ulnar artery of the patient.

    Abstract: A catheter is provided which includes an outer catheter and an extendable inner catheter. A sealing feature is positioned between the inner catheter and the outer catheter to seal the annular gap between the two while allowing axial translation. The seal may be a compliant protrusion surrounding the inner catheter and may have a chevron- shape for facilitating axial translation. The seal may be a one-way valve configured to allow antegrade flushing but prevent retrograde flow. The seal may be squeegee-like flange on the distal tip of the outer catheter. The seal may be an expandable bulge, which may be mechanically expandable or inflatable or which may be a photosensitive or electrosensitive hydrogel. The seal may include a spring that is radially compressed upon translation or rotation of the inner catheter to transiently break the seal. Also provided is a seal for sealing between the catheter and the vasculature.

    Abstract: A tourniquet apparatus comprises a cuff, a user interface, a controller, a protocol hazard key and a protocol safety interlock. The cuff encircles and applies a level of pressure to a limb of an individual patient. The user interface allows selection by a user of a protocol symbol from a plurality of protocol symbols. Each protocol symbol is indicative of a corresponding safety protocol that specifies a plurality of stored pressure levels associated with a plurality of stored times during a stored protocol time period. The user interface is further adapted to enable the user to adjust at least one pressure level of the plurality of stored pressure levels indicated by the selected protocol symbol within safe pressure limits associated with the selected protocol symbol. The controller is responsive to the plurality of stored pressure levels and the plurality of stored times specified by the safety protocol, after any adjustments by the user, and operable during the stored protocol time period for maintaining the level of pressure applied by the cuff to the individual patient near the plurality of stored pressure levels at the plurality of stored times. The protocol hazard key is adapted for manual actuation by the user to end the stored protocol time period at any time while the controller is operable if a hazard to the individual patient is perceived by the user. The protocol safety interlock is adapted to prevent selection of a second protocol symbol by the user while the controller is operable.

    Abstract: A kit of parts for perihepatic packing includes a sac, at least one securing device, and a first inflation/deflation device. The sac has front and back walls, and a periphery. The front and back walls are joined together along the periphery to define an enclosure. The periphery has top and bottom edges, and the sac is foldable to a folded configuration in which the top and bottom edges are brought towards each other. The top edge has a notch extending inwardly towards the bottom edge. The sac has first and second side portions on first and second sides of the notch. At least a portion of the sac is translucent. The securing device facilitates securing of the sac in the folded configuration. The first inflation/deflation device adds a fluid to the enclosure to inflate the sac or removes the fluid from the enclosure to deflate the sac.
