Abstract:
In the construction of a steep embankment a planar front grid (2) is used, said grid being positioned with a given inclination corresponding to the completed embankment, immediately adjacent the front of the completed embankment. At a point in the earth formation behind the completed embankment an anchor element (5) is placed, and between the front grid (2) and the anchor element (5) one or more fixed anchors braces (4a, 4b) are established to secure the front grid (2) in relation to the anchor element (5). Furthermore, one or more layers of geo-net (7) are preferably placed or inserted below or above the anchor element (5) and behind the front grid (2). Finally, the area behind the front grid (2) is filled up, whereby the anchor element (5) is covered to provide the earth formation in the completed embankment. In this method is used a universally applicable system comprising a planar front grid, an anchor element and a number of anchor braces or struts, said system being immediately adaptable to a given application.
Abstract:
A sealing system for tailings dam walls; said system including covering inward sloping walls of embankments forming a perimeter of said tailings dam with an impervious barrier; said impervious barrier in the form of a composite of at least two differentiated layers of material.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of connecting an earthen formation to a concrete facing of a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) structure. A one-piece connector having a stem and a tab, wherein the stem is connected to a soil reinforcing element embedded within the earthen formation and the tab is connected to a facing anchor attached to the concrete facing. The connection allows soil reinforcing mats to swivel in a horizontal plane, but also to shift vertically in reaction to MSE settling or thermal expansion/contraction of an MSE structure.
Abstract:
A cover system is provided for waste sites and environmental closures, in which the cover system comprises a synthetic grass and an impermeable geomembrane that can be applied without the use of heavy earthwork equipment as temporary or final cover to control odors, erosion, gas migration and contaminate migration. The invention allows installation on very steep slopes and does not require the use of an extensive anchoring system to resist wind uplift or slope failure. A gas collection system is located under the cover system for the collection of gas produced by the waste sites.
Abstract:
This invention relates to open cut mines and in particular an improved slope to of an open cut mine. The slope includes a substantially vertical batter face (5) with a plurality of reinforcing members (10) spaced from a crest (7) of the batter face (5).
