Abstract:
A gaming system including a number of host devices each coupled to one or more gaming machines, wherein content provided by the host device is output on the gaming machine. To output the content provided by the remote host, a host- controlled process that is authenticated by the gaming machine and executed in a secure memory location such that it is isolated from other processes executing on the gaming machine may be utilized. The host-controlled processes may be decoupled from the process used to execute the game of chance played on the gaming machine such that the content output by the host-controlled process does not alter the play of game of chance.
Abstract:
Various techniques are disclosed for implementing wireless communications among devices in a wager-based gaming environment which may include at least one portable electronic smart card device and/or at least one electronic wagering token. Some aspects relate to periodically engaging in wireless communications between a portable electronic smart card device and a plurality of electronic wagering tokens. Some aspects relate to performing tracking of electronic wagering tokens which are detected as being within possession or control of a patron during various events such as, for example: a patron entering an authorized gaming region of the live casino gaming environment, a patron exiting an authorized gaming region of the live casino gaming environment, a patron initiating start of a gaming session at a gaming device or gaming table of the live casino gaming environment, a patron being detected as being within a predefined proximity to the gaming device or gaming table of the live casino gaming environment, an event relating to the closing of the gaming session, the location of the patron being detected as no longer being within the predefined proximity to the gaming device or gaming table, etc. Some aspects relate to determining an identity of a patron whose presence is detected at the live casino gaming environment. Some aspects relate to detecting and identifying electronic wagering tokens which are within possession or control of the patron of the live casino gaming environment during at least one time interval. Some aspects relate to generating, in response to detecting and identifying a presence of a electronic wagering token which is determined to be within possession or control of the patron, token-owner association information which includes information relating to a ownership association between the patron and the electronic wagering token.
Abstract:
Disclosed are apparatus and methods for illuminating a display. In certain embodiments, the illumination apparatus includes a light guide that receives light from a light generator along an edge of the light guide and directs the received light via light extractor features (e.g., grooves) towards a display. The light guide includes at least two sets of light extractor features that are rotated with respect to each other so as to reduce a shadowing effect on the display when the display is viewed from within a specific range of viewing angles. In further embodiments, the spacing or orientation of each or one of the extractor feature sets may also be adjusted so that other visual artifacts, such as a Moiré effect, are reduced.
Abstract:
A base encryption method may be applied to plain data to form base encrypted data. An installation encryption method may be applied to the base encryption data to provide encrypted installation data. During installation, the encrypted installation data are encrypted to form encrypted storage data for storage on a storage medium such as a hard drive. Preferably, the data are not fully decrypted at any stage of the installation process. The host CPU may be minimally involved (or not involved) in the encryption/decryption process. Some embodiments provide a logic seal (a/k/a a "tell-tale circuit") that monitors access to a machine. In some such implementations, an encryption/decryption key may be stored in the logic seal. When the logic seal is broken, countermeasures may be taken, e.g., at least some data may be deleted. For example, one or more cryptographic keys may be erased.
Abstract:
Methods and devices are provided for enhanced bingo play, particularly multi-card play. Multi-card bingo patterns can provide low hit probabilities and correspondingly high payouts, even if the underlying bingo cards have relatively few spots. Some multi-card patterns can only be hit one way. "Wild" bingo balls, which may be placed on any available spot on a bingo card, are also provided.
Abstract:
A gaming machine connected in a gaming network or operating as a standalone machine, is capable of accepting two or more currencies for wager game play. The machine operates internally using a native monetary type and converts non-monetary bills to native amounts in the form of restricted or cashable credits. The multiple currency capability of the machine is utilized to encourage the use of restricted credits by adjusting conversion rates, payback tables, and the like. These features, combined with the use of restricted credits, also enable ways to monitor abuse and illegal activity on the gaming machine and implement ways to limit losses by a player. Certain post-conversion processes are used to ensure that the player is returned non-converted amounts. The gaming machine has additional hard and soft meters to process multiple monetary types.
Abstract:
A wager gaming machine may be configured not only to provide wagering games, but also to communicate with one or more hosts that can provide information and/or services pertaining to local wager gaming events, including but not limited to local tournaments, local restaurants, local messages (e.g., messages from other players in the gaming establishment), local social events, local sporting events, local dating opportunities, etc. Other hosts may provide information and/or services pertaining to business or finance (e.g., stock quotes), sports, news, weather, etc. Processes for conveying audio, video, etc., from host devices may be separate from processes used to control wager game presentations. At least some such processes may be able to output an associated "skin" on a video system of the wager gaming machine. These processes may involve providing one or more "widgets." In some preferred implementations, at least a threshold level of one or more wager gaming machine resources will be made available to wager game presentations and related functions.
Abstract:
Some preferred implementations of the invention provide a kiosk that can read a cashless instrument, determine one or more corresponding items of merchandise for which the cashless instrument may be redeemed and provide the corresponding item(s) of merchandise. The cashless instrument may be, for example, an ordinary "cash out" ticket, a ticket formed according to the invention, a player loyalty instrument, etc. Some implementations of the invention provide EGMs configured to issue cashless instruments that may be exchanged for various types of merchandise. The cashless instruments may be, for example, encoded tickets. Some implementations provide EGMs configured for encoding a prize code that indicates a corresponding item of merchandise for which the cashless instrument may be redeemed. However, a cashless instrument may or may not indicate a prize code. If a cashless instrument includes a prize code, the prize code may or may not be indicated in human-readable form.
Abstract:
Some implementations of the invention allow patrons to earn a "collectible" during the course of playing a wagering game. A collectible (and/or a hierarchy of collectibles) may be associated with a particular casino. While playing a game, a player may have options to redeem one or more collectibles. In some such implementations, a collectible may activate special game features, such as a special bonus round, a higher paytable for a defined period of time, or other features described in detail herein. A collectible may persist after a gaming session is completed. Some implementations of the invention provide persistent collectibles only for patrons who are members of a player loyalty program. However, other implementations of the invention provide persistent collectibles even for patrons who are not members of a player loyalty program.
Abstract:
Novel methods, devices and systems are described for forming displays and creating environments in a casino. Some implementations of the invention provide configurable gaming machine skins, which may be formed from electronic paper or the like. Casino environments may be created in accordance with a game theme and/or to indicate a group of players. The environment may include configurable surfaces of gaming machines and/or nearby surfaces, such as walls, floors and ceilings. Projected light and/or an audio system may be used to enhance the immersive and dynamic environment. Preferably, some or all of these features may be changed automatically when a game theme changes.
