Abstract:
A rotary filtration system comprising a device having a fluid filtration gap between a filter and a rotating member (e.g., a disc), a filter pack for use in the rotary filtration device, and a cartridge formed by structurally connecting (and optionally fluidly connecting) two or more of the filter packs is disclosed. In the filter pack, the filter lies adjacent a permeate collection member, which also desirably can support the filter. The permeate collection member has one or more passageways for collecting the permeate that flows through the filter and is connected to a permeate collection header in the device. The filter pack and device are designed so that the filter pack may be easily inserted into and removed from the device, preferably by moving the filter pack in a direction generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft that rotates the rotating member. Desirably the rotating member and/or filter has one or more spiral grooves in fluid communication with fluid in the gap. Several rotating members and filter packs may be interleaved to increase filtration device capacity and make more efficient use of equipment space. In such a device, the rotating members can be mounted on a common shaft for rotation in unison and can have spiral grooves on both major faces of each rotating member.
Abstract:
In a slurry filtering apparatus having valves and valve seats of abrasion-resistant metal, a pump pressurizes and ejects a slurry containing hard particles at a high concentration. The flow of slurry is forced upon a filter surface in a direction oblique to it. Since the ejection of slurry causes cavitation and abrupt changes in velocity in the flow, shearing forces are created to scatter larger particles. This prevents filter-cake deposition while permitting parallel-flow filtration.

Methods for automatically controlling a vibratory separator for processing drilling fluid are disclosed. The methods include introducing material to a vibratory separator, and sensing with a sensor apparatus a state parameter indicative of operation of the vibratory separator and providing a signal indicative of a value of the state parameter to a control apparatus. Then, with the control apparatus, automatically controlling the vibratory separator based on the level of the state parameter. In a further feature of a vibratory separator screen supports 310a, 311b, 311c are secured to their respective screens 310, 311, 312 with suitable clamping devices such as one or more electro-magnetic clamp apparatus 314, or other suitable clamp devices. The electro-magnetic clamp apparatus 314 may be of the type which are energized and/or de-energized with a single temporary electric pulse. That is, an un-magnetized clamp apparatus may be set to a magnetized state and remain in a magnetized state with a temporary electric pulse signal from some form of a controller device or other suitable source. Another pulse from the same or a different source may then set it back to an un-magnetized state and the clamp will remain in that state indefinitely until it is once again re-energized. The clamp apparatus may be based on monostable or bistable electropermanent magnets A 'constant 'G' force controller (not shown) may be included with the control system of the controller to assure that the vibratory accelerations are maintained within acceptable limits.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A method for recuperating valuable substances and liquids from a suspension or mixture thereof, whereby a continually circulating filter strip (20) is used, the suspension or mixture is deposited on said strip and the filter strip is integrated into the fibre treatment process. The invention is particularly suitable for producing paper, whereby a device (TD) containing one such circulating filter strip is integrated into the return system. By applying this method (which is fundamentally known per se as a sludge treatment method) to fibre production, the following effect is obtained: the valuable substances accumulate in the thickened filter cake, whereby the greater part of said substances can be re-used, and the quality of the remaining water is such that it can be re-used almost entirely in the fibre production process circuit without encumbering an internal or external purification or waste-treatment facility. One particularly preferred device comprises other devices in addition to said filter strip, whereby said combination results in an extremely compact structure and provides universal adaptability to the respective processes thus performed.
