Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for calculating cup and band size for a brassiere comprising the steps of obtaining an under-the-bust measurement indicative of band size and a bust measurement indicative of cup size. If the under-the-bust measurement is even, then the apparatus increases the band size by a first selected amount and decreases the cup size by a second selected amount. The resulting measurements are selectively displayed on a screen according to sizing standards in the U.S. or according to sizing standards in other countries.

Apparatus (1) for determining the ride height dimension H of a vehicle between a first reference point (A) fixed relative to the vehicle and a second reference point (B) fixed relative to the ground comprises apparatus (1) for determining spherical co-ordinates A (r a , θ a , φ a ) and B(r b , θ b , φ b ) which define the locations of the first and second reference points A and B, respectively, in three-dimensional space relative to a datum point 10. The apparatus determines Cartesian co-ordinates A(x a , y a , z a ) and B(x b , y b , z b ) from the corresponding spherical co-ordinates, and where the ride height dimension is a vertical dimension between the first and second reference points A and B, the ride height dimension is computed by subtracting the vertical Cartesian co-ordinate z a of the first reference point A, thus producing the ride height dimension from the formula : ride height H = z a - z b H = r a cosφ a - r b cosφ b .

Methods and computer executable instructions are provided for making an elongate line (22) with a plurality of marks (30) and detecting those marks (30) to determine a distance of the elongate line (22) in a downhole or a physical integrity thereof. In a preferred embodiment, each mark comprises a plurality of particles (44) having a substantially permanent magnetizing capability adhered to an exterior surface of the elongate line (22) at preselected intervals with an epoxy paint. The particles (44) are arranged at each interval as a plurality of bands (40). Thereafter, the particles are oriented into a magnetic signature for that interval by magnetizing the particles to create a magnetic field substantially normal to the exterior surface. This facilitates detection by a Hall effect probe. The magnetic signatures are stored in a computing configuration and, once a mark is detected, a correlation is made to a unique position on the elongate line by comparison with the stored magnetic signatures. Preferred particles include samarium-cobalt and neodymium-iron-boride.

A digital linear measuring device includes a housing (10), a reel located within a housing and a measuring tape (20) wound on the reel. The measuring tape is extendable through an opening (9) in the housing as the reel is rotated. An incremental measuring means (50) is associated with the reel for generating incremental measuring data and an absolute measuring means (30) cooperates with measuring tape for generating absolute measurement data as the measuring tape is extended. A processing unit is responsive to both the incremental measurement data and to the absolute measurement data for generating output reflecting linear extension of the measuring tape from the housing, and a display (23) is responsive to the processing unit for displaying information reflecting the linear extension of the measuring tape from the housing.
