Abstract:
In accordance with embodiments of the invention, an apparatus and method for device lighting is disclosed. The apparatus and method comprises a key operable for communicating with a computing device. The apparatus further comprises a light emitting device for lighting the key and a selector operable for selecting between a plurality of lighting schemes. More specifically, each of the plurality of lighting schemes defines at least one of colour, intensity and duration of the lighting of the key.
Abstract:
A customer user input device such as a computer mouse is disclosed. A core module can house the sensor, microcontroller and RF modules (if any). It may or may not also house the microswitches and scroll wheel. The core module can accept inserts having differing or variable button configurations so that the user can customize the location of the buttons in accordance with the user's intentions.
Abstract:
A computer keyboard is disclosed to remediate the phantom key or ghosting problem. Diodes are added to the PCB or contact-receptive membrane to eliminate reverse current, which is responsible for phantom key strikes. These one-way diodes increase the number of possible concurrent combinations that a microcontroller with limited inputs can support.
Abstract:
A system for managing visual interface content encompassing primary visual interface content and adjunct visual interface content includes a processing unit, a primary display apparatus, a memory, and a set of display-enabled user input apparatuses. The system can be configured to direct or perform visual interface content management operations including selectively establishing associations or mappings between particular adjunct visual interface content and portions of a display-enabled user input apparatus and possibly portions of the primary display apparatus in response to user input; displaying primary visual interface content using the primary display apparatus; displaying adjunct visual interface content using a display-enabled input apparatus, where the first adjunct visual interface content includes visual information that corresponds to a portion of a visual environment absent from the primary display apparatus and which indicates an in-application event; and progressively displaying updated adjunct visual interface content on an automatic basis and/or in response to user input during application program execution using a display-enabled user input apparatus.
Abstract:
Most computer operating systems are able to automatically configure the coupled computer peripheral device for use with the computer operating system without the need for installation of a specific driver. However, when these peripheral devices are detected by the computing system, a generic UI control configuration is often assigned to them and whatever customised settings previously configured by the user will be lost and replaced with a new set of unfamiliar setting. This poses much inconvenience and hassle to gamers when they use a different computing system or machine. Described according to an embodiment of the invention is a profile management method, operating on. a computing cloud, comprising steps for receiving client data provided by a computing system detecting coupling of a user- interface (UI) thereto and for retrieving configuration data corresponding to the client data for use in configuring the UI by the computing system.
Abstract:
Method and system are disclosed for a keyboard (200) having a built-in docking station (204) for a handheld media device. The built- in docking station allows the handheld media device to be accessed from the computer and also recharged in some cases without requiring any additional setup or adding clutter to the computer work area, since the keyboard is already set up in the work area. In some embodiments, keyboard key codes may be intercepted and routed directly to the docking station, thus allowing the handheld media device to be accessed from the keyboard independently of the computer. Alternatively (or in addition), the keyboard may have a built-in media reader (406) for accessing a removable memory of the handheld media device. In some embodiments, a video display (606) and/or speakers (506) for the handheld media device may also be built-in the keyboard.
Abstract:
A visual indication of user proficiency at interacting with an application program such as a computer game can be provided through a system and/or method configured to determine an actions count corresponding to a number of input device signals generated and/or application program actions initiated during application program execution; normalize the actions count to determine an actions per minute value; and output illumination signals during application program execution using a set of illumination devices such as LEDs carried by an input or output device, where the illumination signals indicate a user performance level relative to a set of actions per minute thresholds. Actions per minute thresholds and/or particular illumination devices corresponding thereto can be selected or programmably specified in response to user input received by way of an illumination control GUI.
Abstract:
A cable including a number of cords of wires. The cords of wires are braided together in a predetermined braiding pattern. Each cord of wires includes a number of wires. The wires of each cord of wires are braided together in a predetermined braiding pattern. The cable further includes a cable insulator that collectively encapsulates the cords of wires. The cable further includes cord insulators. Each cord insulator collectively encapsulates the wires of each cord of wires. Each wire is encapsulated within a wire insulator. At least one of the cable insulator, the cord insulator, and the wire insulator is braided in a predetermined braiding pattern. The braiding of the cords of wires, the wires of each cord of wires, the cable insulator, the cord insulator, and the wire insulator, enhances at least one of flexibility and tensile strength of the cable. The braiding of the cords of wires, the wires of each cord of wires, the cable insulator, the cord insulator, and the wire insulator preferably decreases propensity of kink formation in the cable. A method for manufacturing cables is also provided by the present disclosure.
Abstract:
Pointing devices such as computer mouse are commonly used for making selections on computer screens. However, prolong or frequent use of such pointing devices might result in users suffering from repetitive stress disorder. Further, due to the widespread use of personal computers (PC), this problem is made more even pronounced. In addition, users increasingly require additional buttons to be provided on the computer mouse for purposes such as PC gaming. Although device manufacturers have started building more buttons on existing computer mice, the buttons are typically not ergonomically positioned. An embodiment of the invention describes an ergonomic input device with multi-programmable buttons.
Abstract:
Personal computer (PC) and online gaming are gaining popularity around the world. Typically players use human interface devices (HIDs) such as keyboards and mice for playing PC games. Many of the modern PC games use a control scheme commonly known as the "WASD/Mouse" which is a combination of the "WASD" keyboard keys and the mouse as means for interacting with the PC games. Additionally, for expansion on existing game control functions, modifier keys are used in conjunction with other keyboard keys to serve as shortcut keys for activating such game control functions. However, due to close positioning of the "WINDOWS" key with the modifier keys on the keyboards, the "WINDOWS" menu might be activated accidentally during normal PC game play especially when players frequently access the shortcut keys. An embodiment of the invention describes a system and method for deactivating keys selectable on human interface devices.
