Abstract: A method of attaching a plurality of cables such as trace heating cables to an elongate pipeline comprises bringing together the pipeline and an elongate mat along a common longitudinal direction, wrapping the mat around at least a majority of the circumference of the pipeline, and fixing the wrapped mat to the pipeline. The mat comprises at least two longitudinally-extending cables that are supported by a pliant substrate so that when the mat is wrapped around the pipeline, the cables are positioned at respective angular positions about a longitudinal axis of the pipeline. The mat may be guided from a planar configuration on exiting a reel into a configuration that is curved about the longitudinal axis. Centraliser spacers and thermal insulation may be added around the pipeline and the wrapped mat before the assembly is inserted into an outer pipe.

Abstract: An electric heating system (16) for a subsea pipeline (10) comprises heating sections (16A, 16B) disposed in neighbouring longitudinal succession. A switchboard (26) is configured to supply power in a cycle alternating between the sections. Levels of heating power supplied to the sections are in mutually-opposed alternation throughout that cycle. During the cycle, a greater level of heating power is supplied to a first section (16A) than to a second section (16B) for a period of time. Conversely, a greater level of heating power is supplied to the second section (16B) than to the first section (16A) before and after that period. For example, the second section may be deactivated during that period and the first section may be deactivated outside that period. By applying heat in this intermittent or fluctuating manner, the overall power requirement of the system is greatly reduced. There is a corresponding reduction in the size, complexity and cost of power generation and transmission hardware.

Abstract: A subsea riser is installed by lowering at least one riser conduit to the seabed when piggybacked to an elongate support that comprises at least one flowline. The elongate support may be a pipeline bundle, which may be attached to one or more towheads in a towable bundle unit. The riser conduit may be in fluid communication with the flowline. At the seabed, a free end portion of the riser conduit is detached from the elongate support by releasing subsea-releasable fastenings. Then, with the elongate support and a root end of the riser remaining at the seabed, the detached free end portion of the riser conduit is lifted away from the elongate support to a riser support, such as a platform, an FPSO or a buoy.

Abstract: A mudmat for a subsea pipeline accessory comprises a body (12) having an accessory support structure (16) arranged to lie underneath and support an accessory. Abstract: A top connector (12) for a tether (16) of a subsea buoy (10) comprises a support (46), a lever member (60) movable about a pivot axis, and a chain stop mechanism (64) mounted on the lever member (60) to be situated below the pivot axis in use. The lever member (60) is pivotably connected to the support (46) via a flex joint (58) arranged to bear a tensile load exerted by a top chain (22) of the tether (16) when engaged with the chain stop mechanism (64).
