Abstract:
A fastener with a recess head wherein the drive head has four lobular recess channels. Each channel comprises a first wall, a second wall, a bottom surface and a recess sidewall. The first and second walls have portions opposing each other and a constant radius of curvature to form a continuously and smoothly forming wall of the channel. A torque producing driver tool is defined with cross sectional signature substantially complementary in size and shape of the recess of the drive head of the fastener for matable engagement. A recess punch for manufacturing the fastener is also defined and comprises a punch holder and a punch pin integral with the holder.
Abstract:
A drive system for a surgical fastener is composed of a drive tool with a drive tip that mates closely with the recess formed in the head of a threaded fastener. The surgical fastener has a head with a quadrilobe fitting therein which closely mates with the quardilobe tip of the tool. The cooperating drive surfaces align the fastener and tool coaxially and produce four point contact equidistant about the circumference of said fastener significantly reducing angular excursions of the fastener during placement in the bone.

Abstract:
The invention provides a bit (10) for use with a rotatable tool, said bit including: a shaft (12) having a rearward end adapted to be held by a chuck of the rotatable tool, and a forward end (18) having cutting tips formed thereon; a reaming head (14) including a body having a bore (16) adapted to receive the shaft therethrough in a sliding fit, the body having a plurality of cutting blades (26) formed on at least one peripheral surface thereof; the bore and/or the shaft having formations thereon such that when the reaming head has the shaft operatively located in the bore the reaming head is rotationally locked into the shaft; the reaming head and the shaft being separable from each other to allow either component to be replaced independently of the other. The invention also provides a bit having a tip end and shank end for use with a rotatable tool, said bit having at least 4 blades (24) to engage and drive a screw when said rotatable tool is rotated, each blade including at said tip end a bevel so as to form a cutter (22) at the extremity of said blade, each bevel and/or cutter being able to cut in the same rotational direction. The invention further provides a method of making a bit for use as a screwdriver and countersinker, said method including the steps of: 1) forming at least a four blade screw driving end onto one end of blank, 2) forming a bevel at the extremity of each blade, said bevel producing an inclined plane cutter.
Abstract:
New system for holding and tightening screws, comprising a screw head with a mortise hole (1) which is bevelled in the screw axis and is provided with a plurality of lugs (2) and corresponding circular sections (3), a tip (4) of a screw-driver or tightening tool with a plurality of wings (5) corresponding to the number of lugs and a tooling set intended to obtain said mortise (1) in the screw head and said tip (4) of screw-driver or tightening tool.
Abstract:
A screwdriver bit (50) fitted to a screw wherein generally vertical end wall parts of a specified depth are formed in the bit fitting grooves of a screw head part at the end edge parts, a generally flat bottom part is formed directing from the lower edge part of the vertical end wall parts to the center part of a screw neck part, and a conical bottom surface is formed at its center part, comprising flat blade parts (52) forming, at the top end parts, generally vertical end edge parts fitted into the bit fitting grooves of the screw head part along the vertical end wall parts, the top end surfaces of the flat blade parts being formed in a conical protruded part (54) having an inclination angle theta of approx. 1 to 45 DEG relative to the horizontal plane, whereas the screw having stage parts at the end edge parts of the bit fitting grooves of the screw head part, forming inclined groove parts extendedly directing from these stage parts to the center part of the screw neck part, forming a generally conical bottom surface at its bottom part, and forming wall parts recessed inward from a vertical plane at the end edge parts of the bit fitting grooves through a specified depth.
Abstract:
A coupling is disclosed for linking as required a screwing tool (2) to a screw (1) having a head (13). A first engagement element (23, 24) is provided on the screwing tool (2) and a second engagement element (15, 16) designed as a recess (15) is provided in the screw head (13). When the screwing tool (2) is set on the screw head (13), the cylindrically symmetrical engagement elements (15, 16, 23, 24) with respect to the axis of rotation of the screw (1) or screwing tool (2) are mutually engaged. The first engagement element (23, 24) is a spherical projection (23) and the second engagement element (15, 16) is a recess sized to receive the spherical projection (23). A continuous locking heel (16) for retaining the spherical projection (23) is provided on the recess (15); the locking heel (16) has a slightly smaller diameter than the spherical projection (23).
Abstract:
A high-torque fastener (24) having a threaded shaft (26) and a star-shaped head (40) is disclosed. The high-torque fastener (24) is made of a resorbable or other non-magnetic material. A mating driver (22) snugly fits around the star-shaped head (40) of the fastener (24), to thereby apply torque to the perimeter of the star-shaped head (40). The driver (22) can be made disposable, and the driver and fastener (20) packaged together in a single, disposable assembly. Additionally, the driver (22) can be color coded to indicate the size of the fastener (24) which is pre-attached to the driver (22) in the packaging.
Abstract:
A spiral drive system for threaded fasteners (10) includes driver-engageable surfaces on the head end (16) of the fastener (10) in which at least some of the driver-engageable surfaces are defined by a spiral segment (8) configured to maximize torque transmission while spreading the driving load over a broad driver-fastener interface to reduce the risk of development of high stress regions. Drivers (4) and related tooling also are disclosed.
