    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for changing a color or a light transmittance of a surface part of a target along one side. The surface part of the target includes a solvent and a plurality of particles dispersed within the solvent. The gaps among the particles or the positions of a plurality of particles are changed when the electric field is applied to the solvent and a plurality of particles. The color or the light transmittance of the surface part of the target is changed according to the strength, direction, applied time or applied number of the electric field. The strength, direction, applied time or applied number of the electric field are changed in association with an input signal through a user using the target, a signal obtained through the target or a signal obtained through a sensing means provided to the target.

    Abstract: A full color high brightness reflective display (200, 250, 300, 350) is formed from individual multifaced pyramid-like reflectors (400, 450, 500, 600, 725, 800).     Abstract: The present invention provides a high brightness subtractive color filter formed by an electro-optic modulator (10) positioned between two retarder stacks (20 and 30). The second retarder stack (30) echoes the first retarder stack (20), having the same sequence of retardances but in reverse order and having an orientation rotated with respect to the first stack (20). The modulator (10) changes the apparent orientation of the second stack (30) so that, in a first switching state of the modulator (10), the two stacks cooporate in filtering the spectrum of input light, and in a second switching state they vanish, leaving white light. Two or more stages can be used in series, each stage providing independent analog control of a primary color. One preferred embodiment eliminates internal polarizers between stages, thereby providing a full-color display with only two neutral polarizers. Hybrid filters can be made using the filter of this invention in combination with other active or passive filters. The color filters of this invention can be used in many applications, particularly in the areas of recording and displaying color images. They can be arranged in a multi pixel array and can be optically addressed.
