Abstract:
Circuit apparatus included in a subscriber line circuit for creating a variable line connection impedance for the subscriber line circuit. This comprises a two wire-four wire converter, i.e. a subscriber line interface circuit (SLIC) and a subscriber line audio processing circuit (SLAC). In the latter there is conventionally included a controllable impedance (Z) comprising a digital filter. A resistor (RT) which can be controllable, or a controllable amplifier (Za) is connected across the four wire side of the SLIC to form the resistive part of the termination impedance (Zi) while the already available digital filter in the SLAC forms the reactive part. An adding circuit (A1) superposes the current contribution from the resistive onto the reactive part.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for extending the benefits of vectoring technology to xDSL systems including disparate types of xDSL lines, In embodiments, the invention includes a scheme to match the symbol frequencies of ADSL2 and VDSL2 lines, to then enable vectoring of ADSL2 FEXT into VDSL2 lines.
Abstract:
The invention provides a single digital communication link between system- side and line-side circuitry in a DAA, capable both of carrying data signals and of transferring a substantial amount of power to the line-side circuitry. The invention comprises a system-side interface circuit, a line-side interface circuit, and an isolation barrier including a transformer. Each interface circuit is capable of connection to an upstream communication circuit (either line-side or system-side), from which it may receive data signals to be transmitted across the isolation barrier to the other interface circuit, and to which it may pass data signals received across the isolation barrier from the other interface circuit. The line-side interface circuit may further include a rectifier and a storage device.
Abstract:
A proprietary internet converters (PIC) is disclosed. The core function of the PIC is to allow a calling party end-user device with internet access such as a mobile telephone, to initiate voice communication with a called party VoIP (Voice Over Internet protocol) end- user device. To do so, the ID (Internet Device with a built-in PIC) needs to convert the protocols used by the calling party end-user device so that the switch that routes calls to the called party VoIP end-user device can understand the instructions sent from the calling party end-user device. The switch has a call forwarding function. The calling party gives the calling party user name (e.g. ISP user name/contact or VoIP user name/contact) to the PIC over the internet. The PIC then sets call forwarding function on the switch, for that particular calling party, so that an incoming call from the calling party is automatically forwarded to the ISP user or VoIP user defined by the calling party.
Abstract:
An integrated protection device for protecting a subscriber line interface circuit from over-voltages on a communications line. The device comprises a switching portion having a gate, a cathode and an anode and a voltage offset portion also having a cathode and an anode. The offset portion is arranged for electrical connection in series with said gate. A diode portion having a cathode and an anode is arranged for electrical connection in series with said offset portion and said gate of said switching portion. The switching portion is operable to switch from an OFF state to an ON state when a switching potential difference applied between said cathode and said anode exceeds substantially a gate potential difference applied between said gate terminal and one of said cathode or anode. The offset portion is operable to switch from a blocking state to a conducting state when an offset potential difference applied across said offset portion exceeds a pre-defined offset voltage. The switching diode and offset portions are fabricated proximate one another in a single segment of semiconductor material.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for testing analog telephone line equipment, especially for detecting defects of the filter (312) of the picked-up/hung-up detection circuit (112). According to said method, the telephone line equipment is isolated (103) from the line, the normal battery signal is applied (108) thereto, and a test signal enabling the polarity to be inverted at the input of said detection circuit is added to one of the wires (202) connecting the hybrid circuit (107) to the detection circuit (112). In order to control the operation of the filter (312), two successive steps are carried out for the frequencies lower than the cut-off frequency and for the frequencies higher than the cut-off frequency, whereby a test signal (206) with a low repetition frequency is first sent, followed by a test signal (206) with a high repetition frequency, or vice versa.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The size and power consumption of a ring trip monitor circuit (330), which performs one of the BORSHT functions of a telephone line card, is reduced by utilizing an operational amplifier (334B) with feedback resistors (R5, R6), a resistor network (R1, R2, R3, R4), and a ring signal generator (320) that is only connected to the line when a ring condition is present.
Abstract:
A system and method for emulating phone extensions in a packet telephony distribution system include using a gateway and an adapter. Signaling protocols between the gateway and the adapter provide procedures to enable typical analog phone system characteristics such as a dial tone and a line-in-use indicator. During an incoming or outgoing call, users of multiple phones on the packet telephony distribution system can make and receive calls or join a call in progress using methodologies commonly used for typical analog phone systems.
