The captured video data is provided to a cloud-based processor via a communication network and is processed thereon according to a video analytics process to detect an actionable event within the captured video data and, in response to a detected actionable event, an alert signal relating is transmitted to an electronic communication device that is associated with a user. Based on the alert signal an alert message is displayed via a display portion of the electronic communication device and a user interface is provided in association with the displaying of the alert message supporting selection by the user of a video-display device. A user input indicative of selection of the video display device is received via the user interface. The captured video data is then displayed in the human intelligible form on the video display device.
