Abstract:
Systems and methods for performing fast-access playback operations are provided. A viewing history is stored that includes a plurality of play positions within a media asset that are associated with user interactions. A user request is received to perform a fast-access playback operation while accessing the media asset. While performing the fast-access playback operation at a first rate, it is determined whether a current fast-access playback position is within a threshold distance from a given one of the plurality of play positions stored in the viewing history. The fast-access playback operation is slowed down from the first rate to a second rate while the current fast-access playback position is within the threshold distance from the given play position.

Abstract:
A system and method for managing recording quality and device space utilization in a multicast adaptive bitrate (MABR) streaming network. Using a subscriber recording schedule and available storage capacity, a DVR recording scheduler and optimization node is operative to determine a bitrate cap for one or more programs scheduled to be recorded at a default or target recording device. A multicast ABR video management agent is operative for joining, responsive to the bitrate cap information and other information provided via a multicast ABR bandwidth policy manager, the recording device to respective service channels corresponding to the one or more programs at select bitrate representations that maximize or optimize bitrate quality of recording subject to the bitrate cap information.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an image display device having an automatic broadcast program offering function such that the users are automatically offered a certain number of alternative programs. The invention more particularly relates to an image display device receiving a plurality of broadcasting services and comprising a control unit effecting operation of the image display device, said control unit being configured to receive program genre information in association with real-time program contents on different channels, the program genre information being directly obtainable from a broadcasting service. The control unit being further configured to receive real-time audience measurement results in association with real-time program contents. The control unit is further configured to analyze program genre information of all real-time program contents and real-time audience measurement results in association with real-time program contents to automatically generate a hierarchical list of alternative program contents to be directly or remotely communicated to the user.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The application relates to a method and apparatus for time shifting audio and or video programs. In a live mode program information is directly transferred to a rendering device (11). In the time shift mode the program information is transferred to the rendering device (11) via a time shift buffer(21), whereby the program information is stored in a time shift buffer (21) and read a time shift later than it is stored. Trick play modes such as Fast Forward and Rewind can be performed. In case that video information representing a program part with trick play restriction is read from the time shift buffer (21) the Fast Forward mode is disabled. The Rewind mode is disabled in case this would lead to read access to a program part which has not yet been rendered and which follows a trick play restricted part of the program part which also has not yet been rendered.
Abstract:
Various arrangements are presented for recording broadcast television programming. An electronic programming guide database may be accessed to determine a scheduled start time and a scheduled end time for the broadcast television program. A timer may be defined to record the broadcast television program. The start time for the timer may be a first predefined period of time before the scheduled start time of the broadcast television program and an end time for the timer may be a second predefined period of time after the scheduled end time of the broadcast television program. The broadcast television program may be recorded, the recording beginning at the start time of the timer and ending at the end time of the timer. One or more bookmarks that are based on the scheduled start time and/or scheduled end time of the broadcast television program may be created for the recorded television program.
Abstract:
Mobile Device Video Recorders (MDVR) are used to track the motion, position and events on various types of vehicles ranging from cars to airplanes. The present invention uses a dual stage hybrid drive (DHD) which stores data on an HDD during conditions favorable to HDD operation and stores data on FMC or SSDs during conditions outside of optimal HDD operation thresholds. Recorded data from the SSD or FMC can be transferred to the HDD while the vehicle engine is off or during times of optimum HDD function while the vehicle is operating.
Abstract:
A network personal video recorder (MPVR) system, method and associated subscriber device, In one method operating on an NPVR element, a request tor playing back a program asset is received from a first subscriber. If the program asset is determined to be in an associated content system, the method includes performing retrieving the program asset's location information from the associated content system, retrieving external media content from at least one of a local media campaign management system and a national media campaign management system wherein the external media content was included in a broadcast transmission of the program asset, building a playHst including the program asset and inserting the external media content into the playHst at appropriate insertion points, and transmitting the playlist including the program asset and the inserted external media content to the first subscriber.
